Last weekend members of the Cauldron, Kansas City’s fan group, and other assorted KC fans traveled to Pizza Hut Park in Frisco for the first time. The list of bad tings about the trip is short, I’ll give them to you.

PHP isn’t finished yet, so the outside of the building fits right in with the majority of Frisco; think piles of dirt and concrete, eyesore, under construction, etc. It takes you forever to get anywhere in or outside of the stadium. Inside the concourses are wide, but not wide enough apparently to hold 24,000 thirsty and hungry people. Football goalposts on the pristine fields outside are regrettable, Texas having a shortage of football fields, etc. The gigantic tower at one end that holds the corporate logo is rust colored, flat ugly, and detracts wholly from what could have been a highly aesthetic and scenic open end. Architects messed up the lighting angle so that they reflect directly off the glass of the luxury boxes and cause huge front row glare. Pay extra for the front row and get glare…thanks. It’s an 8-hour drive from South KC, which means it’s much longer for you. Lastly, KC doesn’t have one like this yet, our local politicians being less open with their wallets to greedy billionaires.

That’s it, that’s the list. If I didn’t mention it, be assured it was of quality, or will be.

STREAKS

16 – RSL Road Winless
12 – RSL Winless
8 – KC Winless
6 – DAL Road Winless
6 – RSL Home Losses
5 – KC Home Winless
5 – CHV Home Winless
3 – CHV Home Losses

WHY THEY DIDN’T DESERVE TO BE THERE

Chivas USA – Chivas was the only MLS team to be swept 12 points to 0 in an MLS regular season series. Zuniga was the second worst GK to ever play in MLS. Only Carlos Delgado, whose only 90 minutes yielded no saves and 4 GA was worse. 18 points overall, 67 Goals against, and Senior Cue’s admission of, “We may have underestimated the quality of play in MLS.” Um, yeah. Feel free to continue to do so.

Columbus Crew – Greg Andrulis gets some of the blame. Also137 Shots on Goal, 35% SOG percentage, 4.28 SOG/game – All MLS lows. It’s worth noting that all 3 numbers experienced improvement under Coach Warzycha.

Real Salt Lake - 20 league points, 30 Goals For, 8.52% Finishing Percentage, 19.1% of shots on goal scored. All MLS worst marks.

Kansas City – Jeff Bradley beat me to it, but KC will now have the dubious honor of being the MLS team with the highest point total to miss the playoffs. Even with expansion, that one should stand for some time. KC’s 12 ties is the point equivalent of going 4-8-0. 5 of 8 playoff teams have more losses.

In a division without an expansion team KC earned just 4 points in their last 8 games. Five of those were played at Arrowhead. During the regular season KC treated leads with the same cavalier attitude that a teenager typically would regarding money. The total number blown is between 15 and 20, I didn’t have the constitution to research it, sorry.

RECORDS

4 teams failed to score against another MLS team during the ’05 season. CHV v DC, NE v COL, LA v CLB, and SJ v DC.

1.387 – Kevin Hartman’s GAA, his personal season low. It’s a worst so it goes here. Still the fact that this is a worst is quite an accolade for Hartman.

-17 - Goal Differential for CHV beyond the 75th minute. Yes, that’s by far a new record low for any team in any :15 period.

2 - RSL Road Points

0 – RSL Road Wins, 0 for 16.

.94 – RSL Goals/Game. Sets new MLS low.

NUMBERS

-10 – Goal Differential for RSL in the first 15 minutes. In golf they say you can’t win anything on Thursday, but you sure can lose.

0 – Number of players with 10 cautions. Guevara had 9 in just 26 games.

8.71% - CLB Finishing. Goals/Shots

19.17% - RSL “ONFIN”. Goals/Shots on Goal. You can give up 5 quality chances to RSL and still keep a shutout.

35% - CLB Shots on Goal Percentage.

2 – Total Goals in NE/CHV Series
2 – Goalmouth Blocks for DAL & SJ

3 – Players with 2 ejections, Guy Melamed, Eddie Robinson, and Jaime Moreno. Melamed earned his in just 14 games – best luck in the USL1, Guy.

3 – CHV Home Wins.

4 – CHV Wins

10.6- COL SOG/Gm

18 – CHV Points

19 – Games Played for Carlos Ruiz. He didn’t bother to show up to receive his pre-game award for DAL player of the year, it was sponsored…ouch.

19 – GK losses by DJ Countess

22 – CHV and RSL Losses

72 – COL Cautions

30 – RSL Goals For

67 – CHV Goals Against

72 – COL Cautions

78 – Hacks for Simu Valikari

124 – Offsides for MET

102 – Fouls Suffered for Alejandro Moreno

125 – MET Corner Kicks

9,691 – KC Home Attendance

12,526 – SJ Road Attendance

Teams tend to run in cycles, especially in leagues with a Cap. If your guy or your team is featured here, no worries; it will most likely get better. On to the playoffs.

Only one field has football goalposts -- Dr. Erwin Pink Stadium, the auxiliary stadium directly to the north of the main stadium, which will host junior varsity and middle school football game, as well as Frisco ISD soccer games.

We do like to complain, don't we.

We do like to complain, don't we. :rolleyes:First, it's a column with a theme. Get over it. Second, I said the list was short. That's a compliment, jacknuts. Third, read the other thread.

Since you brought it up:

At halftime you could barely get through single file each direction as the lines for everything were incredibly long, densely packing the very wide concourses all the way to the section rail. It was only at the side opposite the benches, most other areas were fine.

Face it, with all of the road/highway expansion, Frisco has more piles of concrete and dirt than any other place you have seen, including many war torn areas on television. I'm sure it will look just fine it time.

The mistake in lighting angles is just flat inexcusable in this day of CAD design. It does fit with HSG's MO of doing things second class however.

I didn't even mention that a person can't walk completely around the stadium due to the Player's Club...or that the teams still dress in a trailer...or that parking is $12, we heard there is free parking close by too late...or that security considers "ass" a cussword - you know because there are children around (that's what the guy said), yet has no response for those same children clogging an aisle and blocking the view of others - most likely against at least one fire code - with the sole reason of taunting visitors at the top of their pre-pubescent lungs. Mom's excuse, said after standing with them in the aisle 2 ft. from us for some time curiously, "they're just kids." I agree, kids with no supervision at all. Also no response to two teenagers arriving after halftime to an incorrect seat (exactly one seat away from us) to chant "scoreboard" when FCD was up 2-0. Ballsy certainly, but if not for Davy Arnaud's goal to interrupt the "discussion" there may have been a fight. Preki's followed shortly after and they were too emabarassed to leave. All in good fun.

For the sake of balance, everyone I met at the tailgate was fantastic to me and everyone else. Tailgating on grass is choice. On the way out of the stadium fans (plural) shook my hand and sincerely thanked us for coming. The scoreboards are beautiful. The sales rep, Anna, stopped by and was great. The end zone has potential. The place was almost sold out and the atmosphere was electric for the entire second half. The field was impecible. The second half was everything it could have been. Watching a televised game with friends new and old under stars is a memory I will enjoy for some time. On and on and on. I had a great time.

I didn't see any praise for PHP in the other thread, asswipe.

You can walk around the entire stadium and concourse congestion should be fixed upon completion of the NE side concession area. It certainly isn't a secret that the stadium isn't finished or that Frisco is a booming area.

But I do agree that the lighting, as it is currently situated, is either incredibly poor design or just hasn't been adjusted.

One broadcast from PHP I saw on Fox Soccer Channel was barely watchable due to the poor lighting -- "like a kaleidoscope" was the way Bretos described the moving shadows, and he was exactly right.

Well, I guess the people were better than a stadium with a promising grade of "Incomplete"...except apparently for you of course.

I'm curious. Were you the 'hole that was slide tackling everyone during the kickaround your team lost? (Previously the Inferno requested no slide tackling during the game.) Maybe you were the guy complaining to everyone about offsides all day. If you were either guy maybe you should relax a hair, or at least plan for your stroke in 20 years.

Also El Hefe is right, only one field (of two I saw) with FB goalposts.

I understand they make coatings, etc, for glass in that situation. Probably it's on the final list of STD - stuff to do.

Thanks for reading.

I agree that the pinwheel effect is very annoying on TV, but the glare that you suffer through in many seating areas is even worse.

Hmm. As someone who has already spent a few Saturday mornings at youth games, I have to say (I may be getting a rep around here as fat and happy) that the lighting and beer lines can certainly be fixed. the councourse areas handle the crowds very well.

Furthermore, to walk around the incredible youth fields and only notice the one out of 15 or so perfect full sized fields that is, in fact, a football field, is pretty wacky.

In a few months, we are going to have the Dallas Cup here, and it is giong to be fantastic.

Frisco is a bit of a drag, that is all there is to it, but they had the balls to build the place, and this truly is going to be soccer heaven when it comes to tournaments, and we make the oil companies rich everytime we have a pro game here, so that is good.

It's like you are complaining about the trip to Maui because your shuttle bus had a few out of round tires.

no that was me, and I only "slid" Spoon once and appologized for my behavior after the game to everyone so drop it. I just had to attempt to bring back some life into a lifeless team...

I have to ask. Where exactly does Curtis Spiteri stand on that list?

This could be the worst thread and the wors list of complaints I have ever seen on BS, and that is saying alot.

Dallas, kudos on your new stadium.

asks: I have to ask. Where exactly does Curtis Spiteri stand on that list?Is he the guy that gave up 7? I'm guessing he made at least one save, so I'd say slightly above Mr. Del-don't-got-it.
