Among other comments:

Adu also believes his hopes of making the 2006 U.S. World Cup squad has been jeopardized by his situation with United.

"That has definitely killed my chances," he said. U.S. Coach Bruce Arena "has said it a million times that he's not going to bring anybody in that's not playing regularly for his club team. I'm screwed in that sense, I'm definitely screwed. That was definitely a goal of mine, but that doesn't look like it's going to happen now, does it?"

That goal last week was amazing and he seems to be developing as a player but I mean come on...what's the rush for a kid that's 16yrs old?? Is he trying to break records or develop into a solid professional? I think Novak is the best coach for that development - especially with Novak's experience.

great. I don't even know what to say about this. He shouldn't have said what he said. He just earned himself a stay on the bench for the remainder of the season I'm betting Thats what I would do.

Not to say whathe says is wrong, but you don't go blabbing to the media like that and throwing your coach under the bus, right before the playoffs. It creates a huge distraction and disturbs team chemistry. Not well thought out Freddy

Excellent point...I mean if he were to go play in some other league would he be starting?? I don't think so.....not even in the Colaship.

This is a 16-year old kid. Somebody needs to be with him when he talks to the media to make sure he doesn't run his mouth like that.

I think of all the stupid things I did and thought and said at 16 years old...I'm glad I didn't have to talk to reporters about it.

not really. If Bobby Convey said this stuff about Arena right before the world cup as he finds out that Beasley and Donovan and Eddie Lewis are all ahead of him on the depth chart I'd want Arena to throw his ass off the roster

you never got 2 years of media relationship coaching and training. Freddy did.

Freddy should know better. The other sneaking suspicion is that Freddy is trying to force DC's hand to get him a trade

If I'm Arena, I'd think twice before choosing someone who's going to complain about the coach when things aren't going his way.

Freddy should know better.

Oh, I think he does know better.

I mean, why not yap? Freddy's been quiet this year and his reward has been to get about as much playing time as he did as a rookie, even though he's playing much, much better. And he's right -- he's toast for the World Cup, whereas if he had been playing more in MLS he might at least have had an outside chance.

So Petey is mad. Whatever. Freddy's blowing this popstand after the 2006 MLS season anyway. Maybe this way, Peter/DCU will get annoyed and unload Freddy to another team, a place where he might play more.

Hes one of the highest payed players in the MLS ridding the pine for a team that doesnt need him to win. In a way he is right, he plays good one game and sits the next 3 games. The suddenly people expect him to replicate his performance from 2 weeks ago???? Dejavu from Landy cakes????
His WC shot was ruined by DCU this year. If Freddy got consistent PT this year I could of easily seen him being a huge factor. I guess we are stuck with Ralston then.

He's sorta right, he should have been playing more. He's been good, but PN hasn't rewarded him, IMO, appropriately.

I said last year, it was a big problem that DC plays a 3-5-2, instead of a 4-4-2. That's one less place for him in the rotation.

As far as him moving somewhere within MLS...fine by me, so long as DC gets fair value for him. Considering he'll count as a max. salary player next year, that somewhat limits his value. Still, he's got to be a starter wherever he goes, too, so he'll have to be valued somewhat highly.

I read the posts here before I checked the link. From the posts, it seemed like there was some interpretation to be made, but then I find the article couldn't possibly be more explicit.

Adu Considers Leaving United

D.C. United's Freddy Adu voiced his frustration with Coach Peter Nowak today, saying he is upset with the amount of playing time he has received and that he will consider leaving the club after this season....

I'd say his media coach is doing a fine job: this is exactly the way to use the media. And don't be so sure that the lunch pail players of DCU will automatically side against Freddy; workplace dynamics are not so obvious as that (just look around you).

Im getting sick of all cap Adu crap. He does have skills lets face it and he has huge potential but he's still just 16. He played the u20 world cup and didnt do squat he went to that turney full of media hype and nothing happend. So lets think abiout there are several usmnt players that are way ahead of lil freddy on the depth chart the kid will get his chance he just has to prove himself in intl' play. there are several U20 tourneys left and freindlies he can participate. 2010 looks more like it.

In one sense, yes. If Bruce Arena will talk to Rossi, Ghana's coach might as well have a chat with Mr. Adu.

In the Nike/Sierra Mist sense, however, no damned way. They own Fred, and their property won't be playing for any fricking Ghana.

There's a lot of things 16-year olds do they know they've been taught NOT to do...but they do them anyway. That's what 16-year olds do...they act without thinking.

Hopefully this will be one of those things somebody will write about someday in a "look how much he's matured since then" artcile.
