this is not to antagonise or gloat, but i live in england, and personally i still havent recovered from the 1990 loss on penalties, or 1996, i still cant watch clips of these tournaments. but have the german people recoveed form the 5 1 loss from 2001? i just want to hear the oprinions of germans and geman football followers on this as i havent heard any before

Of course we have as it didn't have any consequences in the end.

I don't know if you believe me but to me it was never that big of a deal but 'Im onw of those who feel that Holland is a bigger rival than England anyway.

The 5-1 game turned out to be irrelevant. We still qualified for the WC, and we made the finals.

how can you posibbly compare that stupid 5-1 to a final or semifinal or just any important match?! i cant believe that the english are still talking about that so much, I mean have they never accomplished anything else in football? well, at second thought, maybe they havent.... :D

Their accomplishment was the right to boast about inventing it :)

geez, that was a tough night, I admit, but that's about it. Just a stupid qualification match with no harm as we reached the world cup anyway (and did better than the english again :D). How could you possibly compare that with a loss in the semis ?
Oh, and who scored the last goal in Wembley ;)?

Not fully, my left foot still hurts a bit. But thanks for asking.

I was shocked by the result
But our run in WC2002 was a good recovery.

How was Seaman btw? :D

I don't even care for national games... our national team is so boring and bad and still we win :-P
makes a good reason for getting drunk though.
Wait. I don't need reasons for that. nevermind.

im sorry, but results dont lie, i dont think that germany has recovered since then. the reason is, that until 2001, germany could feild teams with less talent than opponents, but the belief that they could still compete, and this strength got them through many matches when they faced superior talented opponnts, as you can see by the numbers below, this belief has simply not been there since 2001, and u havent managed to beat a single decent team in this time. the world cup run wsa never a mark of quality, any other county in world football would dream of a run that gets u to a final without facing a single quality opponent, only to be beaten the first time you play one. i am not here to slag u off, i have a lot of respect for germna football, but i do feel that the current malaise in german football can be traced back to one event, and this is due to a mental effect of this result.

when u get the the tight matches against talented teams, you need belief, and as u can see, whenever germany has faced any sort of decent opponent they have been beaten, sometimes even flattenned, and they have not actually won a game against a good opponent since the last game at the old wembley, and we were awful that day. anyway, in closing, i think you guys should really assess where germany is in the world of football, comments like 'we just turn up and win' are from the long distant past, and even then that statement would have been bull, as the old german teams worked like spartans, broken limbs and all, at present you would be lucky to get a player sticking it out with just a broken toe nail
