If you were Bruce, and you had a two-week period as the US Coach leading up to a non-important game, what would you do ?
Of course, there are no non-important games, but you know what I mean.
If it were me, I'd call up a bunch of our European players. I know that it sometimes sounds on these boards as if playing in Europe:
a) Means that you should be getting time with the USMNT
AND THAT
b) Bruce needs to rely on his forum posters to alert him of Euro-based players.
I'm sure that he has his own eyes, and scouts that look at all of these guys, but there are a few that intrigue me, such as DeMerit, Whitbread, Jermaine Jones, Rossi (check, please), Robbie Russell, and the kid Hernandez in Mexico.
Even if it means just bringing them into a big camp. I'm not suggesting that some of our lesser-known foreign players could make it to the starting 11,
but if we're talking about including guys like Hedjuk, Ching, Albright, Carroll, Quaranta and Califf in our national team mix, I'm sure that some of our middle-of-the-pack Euro-based players have more skill than those guys.

Nice list:
1. DeMerit: You mean the bench warmer at a mediocre Championship side?
2. Whitbread: You mean the guy who has never played a single professional league game in his career?
3. Jones: You mean the German guy?
4. Rossi: You mean the Italian guy?
5. Robbie Russel: You mean the injured and/or benched Rosenborg right back who failed to impress Arena when he was a club regular?
6. Hernandez: You meant the mid 20s New England Revolution player who was just in camp?

If the starting XI in Germany doesn't dress at least nine MLS players, we've lost our minds.
Europe sucks.

I think arena is far more aware of the marginal euro guys than some are willing to give him credit for.....
and january 2006 will be the time arena reveals his hand...
so, arena has 12 or 13 sure locks, with open competition for the remaining 10 slots....
and there are about 30 guys arena has evaluated closely, and we all know the battles, albright of hejduk as back-up to cherundolo....
i'd like to see arena's 3 deep form chart, as I'm sure it exists, and there mught even be a 4 deep or a 5 deep chart....
the marginal 10 guys who will fill out the 23 man roster are NOT the guys who will determine the FATE of usa in june of 2006....
sure injuries or cards will bring those players into potential playing time, but I don't see the magic player who is gonna emerge and make the difference...
I do agree someone will be the mastroeni of 2006, the new guy who, due to circumstances is given the chance and proves himself...
still, the roster is deeper NOW, then before, so the outsider has MORE bodies in his way....

I'll take the publicity as it comes.

And might I add: the two remaining starters will be the token European players, like those extras on cop shows that get shot and killed but before the end get one or two lines in about how the price of coffee in the city is skyrocketing these days.

Your mind will be lost.
If I were Bruce, I'd lay off the cheeseburgers.

Post #10 for the first fat joke.
