Bit off topic on this one, sorry, but I didn't want
to start a thread over it and didn't know where
else to post it...
Anyway, I found this video on SoccerPulse (I think)
and that's Henry's first game in L1, for Monaco then, 10
years ago. He came in as a sub. and scored two goals
(vs. Lens). Two "typical" Henry-goals too.
It's funny seeing the "kid-version" of Henry:
download it here (http://rapidshare.de/files/7566866/henry_monaco21.wmv.html)

Can I be honest. With everyway we've played, I don't see us getting past the qf even if we're lucky.
<snip>
I don't know, of course, so much can change, it's 7 months away. But, as it stands this is how I feel and it's a touch frustrating and doom-feeling.
Of course, a year and a half ago we thought so much can change in 2 years, and 15 months later, we're in the exact same place...
Yep, I feel the same way.
Basically everybody else on this thread would like
to see Ribery join the team and so would I. I think
that's all it needs, a "spark". He could be just this.
Of course, two or three "sparks" like him would be
better but...Let's start with just this one. I'm not
saying he's the "saviour" or anything, but we need
young, angry, "hungry" guys with something to prove.
I'm with weaponx on the "deal": Govou stays behind,
Ribery in.

That goal on Saturday was amazing! The guy needs to be called up now. I'm with WeaponX, no need to wait a couple of months, Domenech needs to make his intentions clear now.

Yeah, I posted it (http://videofootball.free.fr/res/videos/marseille2_1nantes.avi) on l'OM's forum here, yesterday.
But the "Ribery for the NT" campain is really gaining
steam in France now. Let's hope public opinion can
force Ray's hand....(yeah, right... )

Ribéry will probably have to wait for a better zodiac. Would you call an excellent young player, with an unique fighting spirit, exceptionnal skills and a huge creativity ... but with poor zodiac ? Domenech knows better than this, this coach knows you can't fight against the stars. I salute his wisdom.

one big problem: if anything domenech has looked at too many players in the last 6 months. adding another to the crowd, with so little preparation left, would not be a good idea.
and looking at ribery as a saviour won't do france or him any good. there's a big difference between shining for the espoirs, or for OM, and carrying thr EdF on your back like some seem to expect him to do.
there will be WC's after 2006. if we're going to be ready for them, it's won't be by burning out the next generation before they're ready. Ribery is better off winning the U-21 championship than sitting on the bench (or worse?) with the A team.

I disagree with you on this one Guignol. There are far too many examples of young underdeveloped players getting there shot and making the most of it in the long run. On the FNT, just look at Trezeguet, Henry, and Vieira in 98.... Those guys all got limited exposure and have turned out great for the national team. The experience they got in 98 is the reason they won in 00.
You have to break your players in, and Ribery doesn't strike me as the type to fold under enormous pressure. The guy is rock solid, and he's out grown the U-21's.... No point being a giant fish in a small pond anymore, it can only hurt his development.

Ribery For the National Team! Another great game for Frank on Saturday.... Domenech would be a fool to not call him up.

I second this. There is a sense that with all the old guys being called back into the team that the youth is not being given a chance. We need to break a few of them in so that they can be leaders the second time around in 2010.

Domenech would be a fool to not call him up.
Did I really say this?
Edit: Domenech would be acting like himself if he did not call up Ribery....

Just realised something today : if the NT manages to stay unbeaten until the next WC, then, between the WC02 and the WC06, in almost 50 matches played, France will have been defeated only 2 times in 4 years ... against the Czechs (a friendly in 2003 in Paris, 0-2) and against Greece (in the Euro 2004, 0-1).
I know that won't be of any use in Germany next year, but still, I thought it was pretty impressive ... ;)

Seeing that we do not have a sub-forum for our national
team and that we'll eventually discuss its "issues",
upcoming friendly games, etc, prior to the WC 2006,
how about a single thread for this purpose?
Oh ye, of little faith fish.... ;)

France gets a top seeding..... We couldn't have asked for more. Now we just have to avoid the Netherlands, and the Czech Republic.
