another question..... what french players have caribbean roots?
From what I remember :
Henry
Thuram
Gallas
Wiltord
but I forget some of them (maybe Abidal ...)
There's also Marius Tresor, Gerard Janvion, etc ... who played for France in the past. And Malouda is from Guyanne (like Bernard Lama, the goalkeeper), so he is not strictly "carribean" but you can count him in too.

Hmm, given the context, you may have your chances. Can someone send the tape of the US-CR match to Domenech, please... ;)

Bon jour!
what do you guys think about this game? Is it 100% official?
what players are expecting to play?
I am from CR and everybody here is very excited to play one of the top teams of the world, i hope our countries play that game
BTW you are welcome to visit the game thread in the concacaf forum http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=256560&page=1&pp=30
Hi MoRado
As others have told you already, it will take place,
as it has been authorised by the French Federation.
It is, however, a "strange" situation:
_ November 9th is not a FIFA-reserved date for
international games. Meaning, clubs are not obligated
to release players.
http://www.lequipe.fr/Football/20051018_203710Dev.html
Wenger has already come out, *complaining*
(understatement of the year) about this but saying he
wouldn't prevent his players (this really is about Henry)
from going.
_Henry has declared he wanted to go.
_Same for Thuram (Juve).
_I think Zidane has also said the same.
Chelsea:From what I had read, Gallas wants to go.
Makelele, not sure.
What's the situation with Lyon's players?
Anybody knows?
This could be bad news for Coupet if he has to leave
his spot to Barthez at this point.
If anybody has an updated list of who's coming/
who's not coming, please update.
I believe the selection going to Martinique would have
to be the same as the one playing in Paris (vs Germany,
on the 12th.). Can't confirm this, I *think* I read it
but can't find anything about this now.
So there, little "war" between clubs and Domenech.
Wenger and Houllier have made really silly comments,
such as:
_Houllier to L'Equipe: "Le Costa Rica va jouer à
domicile, vous savez comment ça se passe, le public,
là-bas, et le terrain, là-bas"
Quick translation:
"Costa-Rica will play at home and you know how
it is there , the public, the field"
Righhhhtttt..... Can somebody give this man a map?
And a clue.
_Wenger for Telefoot (French TV program)
(I just read about this, anybody heard it?
I can't confirm):
"l'EdF n'a nul besoin d'aller jouer le Trinidad et Tobago
pour preparer la CdM, ca ne changera rien"
Quick translation:
"The French team really doesn't need to play Trinidad
and Tobago to get ready for the World Cup, it won't
change anything/ won't help"
Righhhhtttt... Map/ clue / brain, etc
Fun stuff...

At the risk of being accused of "glory hunting again" he'res the link to a post i made on the subject of the France-Costa Rica match
http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?p=6499025#post6499025
As for the Wenger quote in Telefoot, I can confirm. I strongly suspect that the statement was made before the match was officialised and Wenger heard it as the French NT is going to play one of the CONCACAF qualifiers, because even as a Trinidadian, I can't imagine someone off Wengers calibre comparing Costa Rica to Trinidad and Tobago (unless he was just trying to be mean)
I can only assume that Houllier thought the match was going to be played in Costa Rica, otherwise the playing at home comment reeks a bit of the same ignorant metropolitanism that has idiots like that israeli guy asking how many of the French NT players were born in France.
Henry seems to be the player pushing for this match with the most amount of enthusiasm, but like with most things on the French NT, until such time that Zidane comes out and says, WE WANT TO, the smoke isn't going to clear up anytime soon

He was my favourite player, those cat like catches, God I miss his style !me too. catlike, the exact word! when an atacker came up to him 1 on 1, he was like a panther. it looked like the striker was the prey and he was the hunter! and generally ate them whole and spit out the (hair)ball after!

One of my fav was when he was stealing the ball in front of attackers on corners and crosses, on the replays you could see the guy preparing to hit the ball with his head and then WOOOOSH ! Lama grabs it in a flash and the player just hit the air around him !

There was a game, Australia v Rest of the world for the inauguration of the Olympic stadium in Sydney, I think it was in 1999 ; if you can get that one, you'll see one of the most incredible performance of a goal keeper. He only played one half, but that was brilliant.

Lama is also a great character. I remember an humourous video in which he appeared, entitled "gestes techniques : le prenage de but à la con", where he explained how to take stupid goals. He joked about the (few) blunders he did in is career, and the conclusion was "20 ans de travail pour en arriver là !". Real cool guy.

Great minds...I also thought about that...
His style of play being based on anticipation, he made awesome unbelievable stops but also conceded seemingly weird goals. He had great reflexes too though. I saw him play during a France 98 match this summer, not as swift as his golden era but still very recognisable style.

I wish he'd go back to Japan and manage. Once his run at Arsenal is over I think he'll become a national team manager of some African country or something.
