But at D-mid and central defender?? When are we gonna find sutible substitutes for these critical posistions. Claude and Lillian's skill and experience wont help their replacements when theyre drowning in Euro 2008. And on this note, whats this nonsense im hearing that Domenech is forcing Makalele back into international duty? Is this true? Apparently hes threating club bans? how is that even possible?

i would rather see mavuba run in circles for 90+ and LEARN than have cluade come back and i would much rather see that mexes gets a chance and so he can learn so what if we finish 2nd in the group at least we're being led by youth that is learning for the future

again, the qualifying process is both long and arduous. A starting Mavuba running circles for 90 minutes will give us poor performance after poor performance when what the team really needs the most is the best start possible - solid results to build confidence. The youngsters will get their time, and they will be playing along the best. Better that than to throw them to the sharks.

I agree, Boumsong still needs to learn a lot.

France at the top of the ELO ratings, probably the first time in 3 years or so, woohoo ! (that's a decent consolation ;))

the problem is finding a new charničre centrale... both tutu and gallas will be over the hill eventually (although the wheels come off much later at this position, look at milan's backfield) and there is nobody on the horizon that will fill those shoes.

mexčs may integrate well, and he's clearly done well at the top level recently. as for zubar, he's seen nothing above L2 so far, no one really knows what he's worth. givet may be an answer, though he certainly hasn't looked it recently.

Mavuba looked just fine to me on Saturday. Give the kid some time to get his feet under him on the National side.

"Outcry as French Socialist blasts black soccer players"

PARIS, Nov 16 (Reuters) - A French Socialist official sparked an outcry on Thursday with reported comments that he felt ashamed most of France's national soccer players were black, upsetting his party as it voted on its presidential candidate.

"I'm ashamed for this country. Soon, there will be 11 black (players)," Le Midi Libre quoted Freche as saying.

Race politics in the sud are tense, so while a statement like this deserved to be roundly condemned as it has been, it shouldn't be much of a surprise. I mean, c'mon, his comment on the harkis should tip anyone off as to what type of public figure the man is.

More hilarious to note, is the comment Fabius's aide made:
"(All candidates) must distance themselves, clearly and politically, from these comments, in particular Segolene Royal, who has the support of Georges Freche," Jean-Luc Melenchon, an aide to Fabius, said.
LOL, that is gold Jerry. Gold.

It looks like Cisse will be available for Les Bleus soon as he is about ready to start playing for Marseilles sometime this month, probably before the winter break. France wont play until February so that gives him time to get some match fitness.

Theirry Henry picked up another injury due to fatigue and may be given a month's rest so that he can get fit again. Wenger has been complaining that Domenech always plays Henry for the full 90 minutes of the France games and though it does seem that Henry has been suffering for exhaustion Wenger's overreliance on the player has been obvious for years so he really should be blaming himself.

....

The groups also want the match replayed. Italy won the July 9 final in Berlin in a penalty shootout.

The groups, whose names translate as "World Cup 2006 Justice" and "The National Action Group for Truth in the World Cup Final 2006," say doubts remain about how a referee learned about the head-butt.

They claim the fourth official's view of the incident was blocked, and that he had to rely on a video replay to make the call -- a move not permitted under FIFA rules.

....

**********

The game's not going to be replayed, obviously, under any circumstances, but ... I think it's very likely that video was improperly used.

Worth investigating or not? If video was improperly used, what if anything could/should be done at this late date?

Theres nothing that can be done. Even if they figured this out 5 mins after the fact i doubt anything could be done. Its over. Id rather not think about it.

the groups are right. its a disgrace that tv replay was used, zizou shuld not have been sent off. obviously the match wont be replayed, but it is a disgrace none the less

here's an idea: we lost the WC final, let's live with it, and try to do so in the classiest possible manner. throwing tantrums won't convince anyone that france were, before, after, and ON that day, the better team, au contraire.

Nah ! We lost the title ! :p

Anyway, we did not score,we did not score. It's not as if we lost the game on a controversial goal or had one disallowed.
