Some counterprogramming for those of us who like some Beatles songs, but don't really get the fuss.
The song I cannot stand .... "All You Need is Love." The simplemindedness of the sixties summed up in one single. "Hey Jude" is pretty grating, too. "I Saw Her Standing There." Ugh.

I found the sgt peppers album very difficult to listen to at first, took me a lot of listens to get to appreciate it.
I don't know why one of you thinks "i saw you standing there" is that bad, I love that song, as quirky as it is.
I'm getting pretty fed up with hey jude, and get back.

You talk about the mindlessness of the 60s and "I Am the Walrus" comes to my mind.

Good choices here...I would also nominate "Octopus' Garden".

I REALLY hate that one right now, but it has more to do with the fact that it's my 1 yr old daughter's favorite tune and gets overplayed more than Styx's "Renegade" did back in the day...

wow...
I just don't care for it, and the psychedelic nonsense (including Magical Mystery Tour, although I like the title track) is just silly. Of their entire catalogue, the psych stuff has dated poorly, and it doesn't stand up well when compared with other psych music from that era. And "She's Leaving Home" is simply ********ing terrible.
Plus, I hate hearing about how "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" is about a picture that Julian drew and not about LSD. Of course it's a drug song, even if it's not about drugs specifically.
"All You Need is Love" is also awful. It just never ends. And is there a worse Beatles song than "Your Mother Should Know"?
From that period, "Penny Lane" has dated very well. That song rewards repeated listens.

I gotta spread reputation before I give it out to you again. WTF?
As soon as the Beatles started doing drugs and supposedly "pushing the envelope" musically their music became unbearable to listen to, imo.
Their earlier simple minded stuff is so much better.

I've never liked "Come Together".

That's not true at all. Some of their psych stuff is still good. Strawberry Fields? Come on!

I now understand why you like Dostoyevsky - a terminal lack of taste.
Plus, I learned English from that song; you shall not speak ill of it.

That song is overrated no matter what its about.

YMSK isn't great, and I agree "Love" grates. But all of Seargeant Pepper? No freaking way! When I'm 64, a little help from my friends, a day in the life - that's great freaking stuff.

"Strawberry Fields" is pretty good, yes.

Actually, I'm indifferent to Dostoyevsky. Loved him when I was younger, probably wouldn't if I read him again. Tolstoy is the great Russian writer who you hate and I love. Speaking of which, I re-read Chekhov's "The Night Before Easter" and "The Man in a Case" recently. He was the Man.

I don't care for any of those, especially the first two. "Day in the Life" isn't bad, but I'm still not a big fan of those records. Count me as one of those persons who believe that Pet Sounds was better than anything the Beatles ever released.
That is true.
I think it's one of Paul's best songs.
Truth be told, I haven't listened to the Beatles in ages, but my faves growing up were Revolver and Abbey Road. I think that would still be true today.
