for me Robert Kovac.
I think if someone was born and raised in Germany, he should play for our german national team. But of course it depends on the family tradition of the players. So I accept their decision.

I would say Klasnic (with Basturk a close second) he would have provided more depth up front.

Right now without a doubt Klasnic. If you ask again in 2 years then it's propably Sahin.

I do not think any of them are German citizens and thus not eligible to play for Germany. Remember in Germany citizenship is determined by blood not by birth. Although the rules are relaxing a little.

No, of course, but everyone was born here (as HannoverGirl mentioned) so they all could be german citizens by now.

I'm sticking with Basturk, but Kovac could be a big loss. We need a CD so bad right now, Kovac would be our anchor in all probability.
Oh yea, and I agree with jonam too :D

It’s interesting that players with polish background are choosing to play for Germany. The most resistant to germanisation seem to be turks and Croatians:D

Everyone born in Germany can get have German citizenship now. Some just choose not to.

It is still very expensive and requires a lot of paperwork over several years. It may be allowed now, but it is still a hassel. Plus, with the history of not allowing non-German blood born in Germany from becoming citizens still leaves a bad taste in people's mouthes.

Basturk for me right now. Sahin in the future.
I feel Germany's problem in offense is that outside of Ballack, there's no freakin' creativity in midfield. Basturk would solve that problem.
I can understand Klasnic, but I think that's really putting down Klose, Podolski, Kuranyi and Hanke.
I just feel the Germany team needs a Basturk a bit more than they need a Klasnic right now........

my only hesitancy to vote for basturk comes because for all his ability, i wonder where and how hed play for germany...
Alongside ballack? Impossible…
In front of ballack? Even worse because that would leave gaping holes…
5 man midfield, with a lone striker? For all the creativity and innovation, basturk isn’t a clinical finisher and that would still leave us with only 2 genuine goal threats in the form of ballack and the lone striker…

I don't see a problem with this lineup (except for the defense ;) ):
---------------------Kahn---------------------
Friedrich-----Metzelder-----Merte--------Lahm
--------------------Ballack---------------------
Deisler--------------------------------Schweinsteiger
-------------------Basturk---------------------
----------Klose---------------Podolski----------
Good news here: we won't have to worry these players having to play: Frings, Ernst, Hamann and Borowski. It would be moot, Basturk beats them all hands down. :D

Bastürk played in front of Ballack at Bayer 04 when they went to the CL. It worked VERY well.
