At Hesperange, Luxembourg
Nov 16th
8pm local time
I believe I read (or rumour I should say) that Lars has turned down the invite to Luxembourg. If this is true, he is getting a good run at Tromso and probably doesn't want to chance losing his place.
So who will we see in goal? Sutton? Kenny Stam etc?
I also thought I remember reading that Stalteri and Hume were going to get the call for this game.
Ahhh specualation :)

Why not give most of the current U-20 squad a shot at impressing Yallop.
Since it is a friendly and the results don't matter why not? If we don't starting
bringing up the u-20's we will still have the same basic team that bombed in wcq and that just wont cut it anymore.

When I was at the Whitecaps meeting last week I asked some VP from the CSA and he said no Canadain based players would be there, only Euros. I didn't think to follow that up to ask about MLS players. Not much info but its all I know.

Haven't heard that before, so it is interesting to me.
I don't think De Ro will be called up for this game, but we shall see. If it is only European based players, we could see a few new faces getting their first caps.

Will Canadians be able to watch this game live or will we watch this game at midnight 5 days later?

I'd be surprised if 18 "Euros" said yes to that gig.

What? Are you saying they would turn doing a game against Luxembourg?
Heh...
Personally, I would love to see Pesch get one more shot because his time has to be almost up with the national team. Although he has been playing well as of late with Derby.
Could we see a player like Dodds from Kilmarnock? Could Richard Hastings come back into the fold because 10+ players don't want to play against Luxembourg?
What about a player like Canizalez <sp>? Has he ever been called up under Yallop? He did score a great goal against Libya....
I wouldn't be too surprised to see 16 players called up for this game.

Derby is playing two days later, so they might be reluctant to yet him go ... but surely there should be must be enough players ... maybe I should forward them my contact info ;)

He is probably not what Mr Yallop is looking for right now anyway.
Yallop more then likely will use this game to try a few new things (including line-up) because it is after all against Luxembourg.
With that being said, I do NOT want another Malta.

I think we will see quite a few up and comers in Canada's squad for this match. Players like Placentino, Uccello (if he's not bitter about WYC), Begovic, and Fernandes (I hope so).

I was thinking that Bergovic might get the call since he is getting some playing time Belgium.
Most of the North American based players will be out of season, so I honestly would be surprised to see more then a few of them.... possibly to fill out the roster.
This game is an excellent opportunity to get a look at younger players.

Possibly Lars aside, I expect we will see a lot of Scandinavian-based players who will be just finished with their seasons at that point (though a couple of the players will still be involved in UEFA play of course). If Lars has turned down the invite, that will hopefully mean Fernandes will get a look in his place. IIRC he (and Stamatopolous) are the only two Euro-keepers we have playing regularly at the moment (though young Begovic at age 18 played for La Louviere on the weekend.)
Time we saw "We're going to rock down to" Stephen Ademolu get a chance to play for the nats. And Rob Friend is due for another look as well, the kid had a decent year in the Norwegian top flight, not too shabby. I think I recall Yallop mentioning in a Neil Davidson article that Hume, Occean & Stalteri would all be back for this game as well. Pozniak has been called according to a post on the Voyageurs board, taken from a report Norwegian website of some kind.

I don't think we'll have trouble finding 18 Euros who are up for it. Let me try to guess who will be called: Stamatopoulos, Pozniak, Reda, Stalteri, McKenna, Hutchinson, Grande, Imhof, Brennan, Bernier, Serioux?, Ademolu, Occean, Friend, Hume, Gerba.
That's 16 and I don't have a back-up keeper (could be Begovic if he plays well in the UK camp) or DeGuzman, Simpson, Jazic, Radz, Pesch, Dodds, Hastings, Thunder Dan, Sulentic, Canizalez, Placentino (that wouldn't surprise me though), Harmse or Tam Nsaliwa (dare to dream). Not to mention all of the NA-based players (and it wouldn't stun me to see one or two of the USL guys called).
I think most of the guys left off for Spain will show up (I hope) and then add in the Scandanavian guys and McKenna and you basically have a roster that will make this friendly somewhat worthwhile.
cheers,

I think Reda might still be injured. As for Serioux, his mother's health issues that caused him to quit Millwall might still be an issue, unfortunately.
And I doubt there will be enough room in the roster for all of Friend, Ademolu, Gerba, Occean and Hume, 5 strikers in what is likely to be a squad of 16 or 18? I'm a bit of a champion of Ali Gerba, but I don't mind if he's not called, I think he's shown that he can play at the international level in the past few matches and its time to give another player a look in his place, particularly against Luxembourg who I think had the worst record in Europe this past qualifying cycle with no points at all.

Yes - Luxembourg had the worst record in the qualifying cycle. To make matters worse, they haven't won a game since 1996.

Hey, hey, hey... that song is a North Boys invention, if you're gonna hook anyone up with the green nipples, send em this way.

I have duly noted this on the Voyageurs board, even before I saw this post. I of course work closely with the North Boys on a number of chants, with the one for ex-Lynx Darren Baxter a personal favourite of mine.
But what's the use of a good chant if you can't change it? :)
