Nice win Bluto. I feel kind of proud for beating a team of your caliber:D
Anybody know if internationals and first-class games will begin next season, or season 3? Also, will first-class matches be played at all levels, or just the top league?

I think I read a post from Allan that first class matches will be season 3. Not sure about internationals.

i lost out on a good allrounder because I was asleep!!
i think there should be a way to set a limit on how much you want to spend (like ebay) so when you bid on a player and someone bids when you are asleep (due to time zones) you are not screwed out of a player. The player was from Australia and the guy who got him was from Australia. The bidding ended at 2:05 Battrick time (think its Greenwich mean time, not sure though) so I lost out because I was not sitting in front of my computer.
You basically need to make a choice: Go for the best possible deal and make sure that you'll be around at the expiration of the bidding, or make a "best and final" offer and live with either getting the player or not. An additional consideration here is that sometimes the latter approach can be cheaper, as fewer managers get the opportunity to get involved in a bid war that drives up the price.

Regarding somebody's lamentation about being very thin in spin bowlers... at this stage in the game, where the serious managers haven't yet been shaken out, a seam-heavy bowling lineup strikes me as a fairly strong option. You'll see a lot of green pitches, which will suit your bowlers well. (I'm even wondering if green pitches are better than cracked pitches for the seamers...)
I imagine that particularly in the upper divisions, this advantage will be lessened as you see more teams that tailor their pitch to their bowlers, but for this season I don't think there was more than one other team in the series that altered their pitch.

If you can afford it, my long term strategy is to have a squad with both good seam and spin bowlers and play whoever suits the pitch best in a given week.

that's certainly a plan... another thought, perhaps a better plan would be to have 6-7quality bowlers and maybe 2 alrounders. If you have a green pitch then u have 4-5 seam bowlers and if you've got dusty then you go with 4 spin bowlers and use your bowlers when the pitch suits them, but keep more of the type that will benefit most from your home pitch because that's where u'll be playing the vast majority of your games.
right now I've got 4 seamers who can start but I never start more than 3 because only 2 are any good and i've got 1 spin bowling allrounder and 1 fastbowling allrounder... one is a genuine allrounder who could make the side based on both batting and bowling and the spinner is my 4th/5th best bowler but could make the side even if he couldn't bowl so I'll likely always play him even when my bowlers improve but he might not always bowl.

i've got 3 seamers and two spinners that play almost every match. works for me.
1 consistency pop and 1 concentration pop this week. nothing else though, which is pissing me off because I've had some guys training for a good 5-6 weeks on either batting or bowling.

I'm thinking of selling some of my trainees pre-popping... or just firing them... I'm going to move to just 2 or 3 trainees at the most. w/ the rest of my team being veterans.

Latest info seems to be 11 weeks for a 17 year old to pop a level in batting or bowling. That's with one batting (or bowling) coach. Increase by a week for each year older than that.
Interesting sidenote is that consistency and concentration pops are coming quicker for players who are also being trained in fielding or wicketkeeping. The theory is, it acts like a multiplier.
I have not trained any fielding myself so I don't know if this is true, but that's the word on the sledging.
But I am training 2 w/ks and the one who I am also training in batting popped in his secondary -- concentration.
I downloaded the java program and that is a nice tool for checking on training updates.

There's a guy in Oz asking 1.5 million for a respectable spin bowler, who's only other redeeming skill is fielding.
Give me a ********ing break.
