OK, raise your hand if you thought TT would miss that goal Wed night
(I just did).
I figured he'd cut it wide.. and in retrospect, it was not an easy goal to score.
But, I think it shows why he can be a valuable contributor to this team moving forward. I don't have a clip of the goal handy, but if memory serves, that's a heads-up pursuit to make, especially late in the game.
I don't remember who the first player he hugged was, but I think he said,
"It's a bass flogging time".. I didn't know he was an angler :)

how was that not an easy goal to score? The goalie missed the freakin ball (he would of had a Red if he DID connect with it), and Taylor was left with a wide open net. All he had to doi was kick the ball straight through.

It was not easy to get to the ball first
Given that the first touch to keep it close enough to himself was difficult
The angle was tight
The Defender cut the angle more, requiring that the ball be played in the air.
Not a terribly difficult chance, but not an easy one either.

With all due respect to Taylor Twellman, but if you want to play at this level you finish that chance 10 out of 10 times.

Maybe not quite like that, but in the home Panama game in the hex, LD flubbed a gimme when the keeper knocked a ball right to him.
Anybody can miss a sitter. Twellman did himself in the first half. But that goal in the second half, that was well taken from an akward angle with a defender racing back, and all that after a nice first touch away from the keeper.
It was a nice goal.

He's missed many one on ones that were bigger sitters then that goal. Twellman showed good composure on that goal by first beating the keeper to the ball and then doing a good job of maintaining control of the ball and finishing at a tough angle before the defender could clear it off the line.

you mean TnT? yea that one pissed me off to no end.
I am not having a go on Twellman. I just don't think people should put a lot of stock into this goal.
He's gonna have a shot this Jan, and for the sake of USA I hope he turns into a goal scoring machine.
Objectivly, I don't think he's talented enough to play at this level, and I think we'll end up taking McBride, Johnson, Wolff, and Freddy to the world cup. With Ching and TT on the outside looking in.

I don't ever recall Donovan missing an utterly empty net, with a ton of space and time to put it away

So Twellman makes a goal that he should and some are already on his jammy. Unbelieveable. Does anyone remember the sitter his missed in this game? While his goal was not easy, it was a not contested after the goalie missplayed the ball. The goal was wide-open and these are goals a forward has to make at the international level.
When Twellman starts making goals on a consistent basis then he should get consideration for WC 06', but the clock is running out and as of right now - he doesn't make it.

Looks like Twellman retained some of his baseball habits. That sure looks like a chaw bulging out his cheek...

I don't think Donovan has even missed an empty net like that.
Saw it happen live versus Denmark at the Home Depot Center. Beautiful run, fakes the shot twice which sent the Danish keeper to the ground, and then shot high over the bar from about 10 yards with an open net.

"You must spread around some reputation before you give it to Sachin".
That post made me laugh out loud. Please, someone, rep this man for me.
As for Twellman, I really liked him when he played for my Alma Mater, UMD. He obviously can score at the MLS level. His problem, IMHO, is that he's just over his head at the international level. He's not big enough to consistently win head balls and not quick/skilled enough to be a Michael Owen type player. I believe he'll always be a 'tweener', close to playing for USMNT, but not in big games.
The goal was nice and showed good hustle and patience. I, though, will raise my hand to say I thought he was going to scuff it wide (as he almost did). I really hope he proves me wrong and wins the Golden Boot at the WC. I just don't see him making the trip to Germany.
