Interesting little article (in spanish) on arguably one of the 10 best midfielders in the world.
XAVI
How many clubs would give their left nut to get this crack? All of them, me thinks.
Your thoughts.

I think that part of the problem with our NT is that we all go "if they were Brazilian they'd be scoring Ballons d'or and Fifa WP left and right". Guess what, WE ARE NOT THAT GOOD! There is no way in hell that you can consider Xavi a serious candidate for any of these awards. Xavi has had one successful year in Barca for about 5 mediocre seasons, and has failed to make any impact in the NT except for one friendly game against England. The difference between Xavi and Kaka is not that one's Brazilian and the other one isn't: it's that one's better than the other.
I don't want to make this about Xavi, though. Same thing goes for Raul and Joaquin.

His ball control is amazing, watch this guy control the game...tempo etc...and make the right passes. It´s amazing. My querry wasn´t to compare Xaxi with anyone, but since you brought it up....
Kaka is without question one of the great talents of the game, but his role is different. He´s an attacking mid. Kind of like DECO or BECKHAM. But with greater spark. and a GOAL scorer.
The comparison is not just.
The next time you watch a Barca game, watch Xavi. He controles it. Forget Dinho. The Motor behind Barca is Xavi. For Real.

I just did. I'll take Deco over him any day of the week. Xavi is obviously a great player, but nothing that warrants a FIFA WP. And he is certainly not a defensive mid, the same way that neither Deco nor Beckham are attacking mids.

Xavi started as defensiv mid, now he´s an attacking mid. re-read my earlier post.

Xavi has had 1 1/2 great years, but right now he's returning to his former leve, which IMO isn't that spectacular.

He can only control it when he has free reign to do so. Remember a few years ago when Barça were getting clobbered on a regular basis, Xavi did nothing until Edgar Davids was brought into deputize the midfield.
Neither Deco nor Xavi are really defensive midfielders. If either of them were, guys like Marquez, Edmilson and Motta would not be in the midfield. Xavi was groomed to take over Guardiola's duties, which was to control the tempo from deep. Guardiola never strayed much from outside the center circle and just collected the ball from the defense and sprayed it all over the pitch. I never remembered anything defensive about Pep's game.
Unfortunately on Saturday, Marquez and Edmilson put together couldn't deputize a room full of senior citizens, hence Xavi's average game.
