I don't want any crap from you rock 'n rollers. I have Gilberto/Getz. I picked this Bebel stuff up and its nice. A bit computerized and overproduced, but nice.
Any recommendations about what else there is out there. I don't want depth. I don't want expirimentation.
I just want stuff to listen to while I am driving the Dallas streets. Stuff that makes me think I am walking down a white beach with a tan woman, about to get laid.

Bebel's Tanto Tempo is one of my favorite walkman discs ever. I always feel much cooler than the rest of the world as I walk down the street with her in my headphones.
"So Nice" indeed.

First - Getz/Gilberto is a classic piece. NO collection is complete without this - it's a pillar for Bossa Nova enthusiasts. :D
Bebel Gilberto, huh? IF you like her stuff, here is a brief discography:
Soundtrack: Next Stop Wonderland
Towa Tei: Future Listening
Thievery Corporation: The Mirror Conspiracy
De Tarde Vende O Mar
Red Hot + Rio.
Also, there is a thread:

Or just check my sig - I'm changing it every week. :D
If you want something more modern/electronic/Bossa ish, I recommend starting out with Suba - Sao Paulo Confessions. My girlfriend is from Greece - this cd sets the mood perfectly. Suba produced much of Bebel Gilberto's "Tanto Tempo" album before he tragically died in a fire in Sao Paulo.
If you want something traditional - older, original bossa-nova but are not too familiar: Nova Bossa. Original Antonio Carlos Jobim tracks, Elis Regina, Edu Lobo, Joao Gilberto (Who you will REALLY want to hear anyway), Caetano Veloso and a slew of other greats. Check out Waters of March.
If you want something "new", with that taste of classical perfection and a great sound - check out "Casa" by Ryuichi Sakamoto/Morelenbaum. Nicodemus was the one that told me about this cd - it is magnificent.
But if it is pure smooth music you want to attract the ladies while driving through the city...pop in ESL "Jet Society". I even reviewed that one. You'll dig "Foto Viva". Helena Noguerra, a Portugal born yet French singer, has a album: Azul. It's also fantastic. Driving through the city... hmm... get a Bossa Tres... Jazz cd. The black covered or vol. 2. You'll probably dig the laid back beats and renditions. Let me know if this helps - and there's plenty more where these come from.
