I've heard mention of a January (4th?) camp - any source on where?

BA mentioned it in the post-game press interview yesterday:

http://ussf.podlot.com/quotespost_pan.mp3

I think he says it will be "the first week of January". He also mentions the March. 22 game scheduled against Germany.

I read at the HDC in LA from Jan 4 to Feb 12 with a friendly scheduled at HDC in late January.

I don't think anything is firm, yet, though...

balboa mentioned january 4th too, and cautioned against player showing up 5-10 lbs over weight....

I don't know if anyone will seriously put on that much weight in a couple months.....

still, I see a very liberal camp roster of mls and winter break euros....while it might not be 40, I'd say 30 might be low...

Kinda sorta. The Gold Cup was in January 2002. The roster and reserves are here (http://www.sweetspotsoccer.com/headlines/a/2002/01/21.html) while the group called into camp is here (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/soccer/us/news/2002/01/03/us_roster/).

The 2002 camp was where Beasley and Mastroeni played their way into the mix while Razov, Cunningham and Mulrooney played themselves out. Arena's started the blooding process a little earlier this time, but there are still guys like Buddle, Jaqua, Gaven, Burciaga, Feilhaber and Adu who have little-to-no experience with the national team but a boatload of talent and could conceivably force their way into the roster.

As a US soccer fan I'm contracturally obligated to include Adu in that list regardless of my own opinion on the subject.

Mastroeni had been capped the previous June, while DMB had his first cap January of '01 and played against TnT in the last WCQ.

Story is, if you haven't been capped yet, its a long, long shot.

More than Feilhaber, I would like to see Ned Grabavoy get a shot during the January camp. I just got done watching the Quakes-Galaxy game, and he adds so much to the attack. Chris Sullivan was going on and on about how much he like this player, and even though Sullivan's commentary usually irritates me, I have to completely agree with him on this kid. He plays extremely well with Donovan and he knows how to get behind defenses and score. Plus he came through the U-20 youth team with Q, EJ, Convey and Dempsey.

I watched the Quakes-Galaxy yesterday to focus on Herculez. I saw very little there. Grabavoy looked pretty good. He's still slow but he is definitley improving and might be able to help someday. I suppose i'd invite both to camp but i'm more interested in Grabavoy's chance.

You can bet the farm there will be a number of DCU players present.

That number better include one extra guy by the name of Adu.

Feilhaber is a reserve on a 3rd (4th?) division German team at the moment.

I'm hoping that Buddle will get a chance. I was impressed by his performance last night against DC in a meaningless game. Perhaps he's matured a little since his off-field issues this season have passed.

Yep. Adu has been playing very well this season and should be primed and ready for a shot during the January camp.

If EJ has some persistant foot problems into next year, I think Buddle should get a look as well. We never know what types of injuries can happen over the next year to our forwards and midfielders.
