(I put an R in the title just in case your one of those dorks who records a match and then before watching goes onto a soccer chat website and then opens a post in a forum titled "FIFA World Cup" - that's obviously going to have people talking about the days results)

OK so we now know which 10 teams have qualified automatically and which six will now go into the playoffs from Europe. Just wandering which three teams you want to see emerge victorious from this group. I personally would like Spain, Czech Rep, and maybe Slovakia - as they're newtimers.

Also, what are some possible enticing playoff matchups that you'd find intriguing... I think Turkey - Czech Rep. would be a great matchup or any tie including Spain, Turkey, or Czech Rep. would be exciting.

I'm not sure if I should think dirty and hope Spain doesn't qualify just so the USA gets a seed.

Or would Nederlands get a seed regardless?

The playoffs themselves will have a mini seeding system with 2 pots. Going by September FIFA rankings, the higher ranking 3 teams will be matched against the lower 3 teams. This gives

Czech Republic
Spain
Turkey

vs.

Norway
Switzerland
Slovakia

Turkey, Spain and Czechs wont play against each other, they are in the same pot. We will hopefully see them match up in the quarterfinals of the WC next year :).

really? didn't know. Okay , so I guess those three teams will avoid each other then. Provided, they avoid Spain, Switzerland may fancy their chances.

Yeah, Holland gets the seed if Spain fails.

Let the best make it through to the World Cup. I think that means Czech, Spain and Turkey.

Actually I think that it would be kind of cool to see a Czech - Slovakia derby.

Well on current form I would say Czech Republic definitely, but I'm not so sure about Spain or Turkey (and their FIFA ranking really doesn't reflect this IMO)

Spain and Turkey have struggled in their groups, and maybe its time they stayed at home and we saw some more of the "little" teams go through - although I guess a World Cup without both of those "big" teams might be a shame - I'd still like to see it nonetheless.

I would say on their recent performance probably Slovakia deserves a go, and maybe Switzerland as they survived a very tricky group and dug deep to hold out to draw against France and Ireland in their last two games.

I guess I just like supporting the underdog :)

I was hoping for a Czech Republic - Slovakia draw. That wouldve been interesting.

It's hard to pick who will win. I can think of some pretty good reasons for all 6 to be quite honest. I think the Czechs have the best chance. I'm leaning towards Switzerland against Turkey. Yakin brothers versus Turkey. Should be very emotional for the both of them. I think the Swiss are an emerging European team...Vonlanthen especially, I think, we can expect to do some big things. The Turks I felt were lucky to get out of the group stage. I was really expecting them to draw against Albania, and to see the Danes be in their position. And the Spanish. Well, they would be a lock for a World Cup seed since they're in second place (as of a few days ago) in the FIFA seeding, but yeah. I'm sure a lot of you out there, especially Mexican, American, and French (maybe Dutch) supporters should definitely be cheering against the Spanish. I'd like to see Slovakia make it though. I think Europe needs at least one little guy to make it. Slovenia in 2002...and I guess Croatia did come out of nowhere in 98.

Though Turkey is one of my favorite teams, they have showed that they can screw up in the last minute, but I sure hope that they can edge the Swiss out. Turkey has some real talent in the Altintop bros, Nuri Sahin, Basturk and Kahveci, I just hope that Hakan Sukur and Hasan Sas can get their act together. And BIG NEWS, Pavel Nedved is coming out of retirement to play for Czech, he said he'd be glad to only play these 2 matches to get his side to the WC but I'm pretty sure he'll be there in Deutschland. He's doing what Figo(I hate his guts, but he has class), and Zizou did, all 3 of them won Euro Footballer of the Year, and all 3 came out of retirement.
