This is a thread for EAs new game fifa 2006, are you playing it? do you want to know more about it?

where are you in career mode?

Of course i had to go through about three seasons to get enough points to be arsenal!

its hardest in the first season because you dont have much money and you lose quite a bit on away games, so you can either upgrade your stadium and hope that you can last until january without losing too much money, which i did, and i sold bobby :O so now im afloat, sperz beat me in the first derby match, but ive beaten chelsea everytime, im waiting until the 2nd season to get new young players, how bout you all?

I'm playing as Derby County. In 4th place, just lost to Sunderland in the League Cup on Penalties.

Loving FIFA 06 so far. Much more realistic gameplay - finally, the ball doesn't 'stick' to the players' feet. The matches flow much more realistically and even the keepers' reactions to shots have been improved.

I've been having too much fun playing exhibitions and getting used to the game to get into career mode yet.

Dudes, I've been waiting for this thread.... didn't think to look in the OT... :o

Anyways... I tried to be clever and unlock all clubs and manage Arsenal from the start, but I got SMOOOOKED! By the wage bill, of course! I couldn't afford the team since I didn't have any good sponsors.

So I started over... I think I'm doing this pretty well. I started out as RED BULL SALZBERG... 'cause of the Red Bull, of course. So I did OK in the first year, brought in some new players, then I ran riot in the second year! I ran away with the Double. So after year two I switched to Ajax as a Level 3 manager... It was a tight squeeze to afford their wage bill, but I'm doing OK. I'm finding it's important to carry only the minimum of 18 outfield players. First season at Ajax, I finished third in the League and won the Dutch Cup. I lost in the quarters of the Champions League against Milan.

This is the best part........ Second season at Ajax begins and I'm in a Champions League qualifier against CHELSKI!!! I beat them 0-1 in the first leg at the Bridge... then they scored 0-1 against me at Amsterdam... so it went to extra time but I punched one in to knock the Russians out of the Champions League! Sweetness! Of course this is like four years from now so they don't have as many players (Roman must have pulled out).

So what level do we have to be before we can afford Arsenal's wage bill? I'm a level five but I doubt I could do it just yet.

I found an answer to my own question... the sponsors only "spawn" through level 5, so by then you might as well side with a five star team.

Got Rushden & Diamonds that League 2 Championship and won the League Cup. So far so good. Im looking to go to Italy or Germany in the next off season, maybe bring TSV 1860 back into Bundesliga 1.

im at level 5 with arsenal, i was able to afford there wage bill at level three by loaning out some players, i sold cygan! haha, and i sold gilberto, underachieving git.

so ive won the champions league twice in a row now, although the first time i ended up 3rd in league, and then the second time i pulled a liverpool and wound up in 5th, but as im the holder im in woot! i think ive lost track, this is probably my fourth season with arsenal i of course created myself as a CM i sold flamini, and scouted out two very promising center mids, i have a a couple of prospects for wingers, although only one of them is really panning out, hes up to an 82 overall LWM, the other im loaning out.

every season until this one im currently in ive loaned bentley out, he hasnt scored one goal for any club hes been at and hes made like 2 appearences, im really not getting any return on this, so i kept him this season and its hurting my wage bill, im barely staying afloat, i might have to sell someone in january.

oh and i signed kiraly as my keeper, ive always rated him so i thought why not, hes amazing. almunia is doing nothing for me, so im going to have to really make some changes come the next window. sigh.

Number one trick to saving money in career mode is to renegotiate all your contracts... Sign everybody to five year deals at the lowest possible wage, youll recoup the money you spent to enter the negotiations in 10 to 20 games and after that it's gravy.

My wage bill is so low I even make 'credits' on away games.

Other than that, loan out (or sell) everybody you're not going to playing.

ProEvo (Winning Eleven 9 in the states) doesn't come out for a few months, when it does I'll pick it up and probably not play FIFA until next year. Plus I like the licenses and career mode in FIFA. I wish Konami would dump the Master League and fork over some money for the more licenses and have a good Career Mode.

...have to say I have played both games for a while now, and those who think Fifa is shite need their heads examined. I've heard how gamers have said Fifa 06 is too slow to react and not realistic!. And I say that's crap they just have not picked up the tempo of the game.

Some how i was able to start as Spurs, but it's not looking good down in 17th place in mid December, in world class mode at the fast setting. Anyways love the game and have loved the series for as long as it's been out. To me Winning Eleven 8 was a poor game I tried to play the La Liga season and just did not feel like a good footie sim. I know that many disagree, well great its ok to have a difference in opinions. I pick up the new winning eleven in the new year.

methinks i need to get it soon...too bad there's no career mode in the PSP version.

i do have fond memories of FIFA 2005 though. started as aberdeen, managed for a couple years and made it to arsenal in year 3. i really must get back to that career and see how it plays out.

Its not that the FIFA games are not good - but the two games cater for different markets. EA's offering has the official-ness as well as a faster paced more arcadey feel to proceedings, where as the Konami game is a more realistic sumulator. To be fair comparing them is like comparing Gran Turismo to Need for Speed. Neither is best as beyond the fact they they both have cars, they are totally different games!

I'm trying to do that too, but I'm having problems with Henry (waaay underrated in this game) and Hleb (ehhh, probably overrated frankly)... they're both 90+ skill and pulling down 530+ in wages per game, and they're in the last year of their contracts, but they won't budge on new contracts. Meanwhile their morale stays down in the 30's, and I think it's because they want new contracts. I have offered them as much as 550 and they still say no. Got any suggestions?

But yeah, I've made deals to cut wages drastically for Reyes, Fabregas, and van Persie

..see that's my point...others look at FIFA and think its to arcadey, imo its an excellent footie sim, you play at a pace you want too. I love how you can control pace, and movement of the players, it's so fluid, coupled with a more superior team and individual AI, some of the team moves you can create in FIFA is perfect football. I found Winning Eleven less creative and players less responsive...probably due to being fonder of FIFA's pace.

However I think I read that the right analog can be used to knock the opposition off the ball, that would be a nice touch.

You know other than FIFA and Winning Eleven/Pro Evo. My favourite football game was Sensible Soccer from back in the early 90's classic.

ive found success in league and europe is a sure fire way to negotiate contracts, ive got quite a few of my youngsters on 5 year deals, henry is getting close to retiring i think, so ill let him do his thing until he does. still losing money on away games, its all about the wages, i have about a 6 prestige but no sponsor will fund more than 5,000 a game. but wait a couple of years into your career mode, and search a GK for colorado rapids, his name is damarcus hanheman LMAO, but hey he is 20 and 84 overall, 6,000 points, course im going to buy him. and found another catch, asier puyol, age 19 i believe 82 RWM perfect replacement for freddie, hes almost better than him, he can beat defenders down the side, but his pace is a little poor, and his tackles stink. every season i keep tabs on nuri sahin to, seeing how hes progressing, however seems like he is stuck at a 63 overall, i think he is not playing much and that puts me in a precarious situation, do i swoop and buy him and nuture his talent myself, or look elsewhere, when i have enough money to take a risk ill check my options. my 4th or 5th year with the club, i think im in my 6th now, but i have won the quad, i even played all reserves in every league cup game. and i beat chelsea to win the champions league that season, beat man u to take the FA cup, and i think i bear plymouth for the carling, and i won the league, but about 4 points or so, successful times are at highbury. ive sent bentley on loan every season until now, and he became my second leading scorer that year, still his overall is only a 74, he cant beat defenders ever and his tackling is worthless. send your scout out a lot or whenever you can, europe is the best place to look for talent, i found a defender overall 94 age 23 :O but i didnt have the money to pay for his wages and still make profits. bleh. the player i created to be myself, is a CM, i couldve chosen a specific role, but it was fun to see what kind of player I would develop into, and with my exploits the game gave me the #10 badge in my profile! and its cool because when im not playing on the field, our attack is considerably slower and not as dangerous, its really awesome!
