He plays a beast of an electric violin that he knocked up himself. Lovely instrumental stuff, particularly the Oxford Suite and Purple Violin Concerto, although his slightly dubious covers album gets a bit repetetive.
I'd be interested to know:
a) If anyone has heard and what they think
b) If anyone knows anything similar

a) He appeared on some New Model Army tracks and played live with them a bit. 'Vagabonds' is recommended.
Used to busk outside the Westgate centre in Oxford when I lived there. I think he lived/lives in the Cotswolds in the same general area as Simon Bisley.
Never really that impressed with his solo stuff, doesn't his sister sing on some of it?
b) Nigel Kennedy did a cover of 'Fire'. I don't think it's very good.
Jane's Addiction (original line-up) toured with a violinist when I saw them (Ritual tour). She plays on the Ritual de lo Habitual track 'Obvious' (I think that's the name). Good song. Great album.
Ed related anecdote I heard from some NMA fans:
Once when he was in LA, he wanted to buy an amp from a local merchant. Realising he couldn't afford it, they let him use it as he stood on the street outside playing. After about an hour, he'd made enough money to buy it.

I have and it is truly mental. I wouldn't be surprised if he has more than one though.
Therapy? had an electric cellist when I saw them at Reading. I was never really a fan of theirs, but that was really good.
