Obviously we need everyone through Wednesday's games unscathed in order to be as close to full strength as possible for this game. Critical tie against a team ahead of NUFC in the table. After the draw debacle at Portsmouth, anything less than three points here is not an option.

Whisper it but Saturday should see us with Solano, Bramble, Emre and Owen (fingers crossed) back in the team following injuries. Its a while before we'll see Dyer and I am afraid I have come to the conclusion he is a complete and utter waste of space. Souness and Shepherd, given his record, need their heads examined for putting Dyer on an extended contract and the alleged £80K pw he is trousering. Let's hope everyone comes back healthy.

That TF writer just NOW figured out how rather useless Dyer is?

Big match, we just can't take anything for granted here, 3 points is a must.

Solano, Dyer, Bramble, Babayaro are all out of this weekend's game. Let's hope Emre, Owen, Given, Carr, and Boumsong come through the international set without injury.

Let's hope everyone comes back healthy.
The news ahead of our next Premiership game isn't good, with Graeme Souness confirming on Wednesday that he would travel to the JJB Stadium without Solano, Bramble, Babayaro or Dyer.
And with Given and Carr both requiring scans on knee problems in recent days in advance of tonight's Ireland game, plus Ameobi's continuing stuggle for fitness Luque's rehabilitation and the invisible Moore, things aren't great.
Taylor has returned from U21 duty unscathed, but United have to wait to see what the fates have in store for us tonight as far as Owen, Boumsong and Emre are concerned - although the latter cannot possibly be match fit.
On the plus side, our midfield quartet of Parker, Bowyer, Clark and N'Zogbia will hopefully benefit from their two week break from competitive action. We still should beat them though if Shays fit.

Jewell wary of Owen threat
By Lewis Rutledge - Created on 14 Oct 2005
Wigan manager Paul Jewell has labelled Michael Owen the best striker in Europe at the moment.
Jewell admits that his team will be up against a formidable strike force when Wigan host Newcastle at the JJB Stadium on Saturday, the game live on PremPlus.
"We are up against arguably the best striker in Europe at the moment and one who has definitely been the best in his prime in Shearer, who is still a very good player who would get into most teams in Europe, so we have to be ready," urged Jewell.
Jewell also paid tribute to his own front man, Henri Camara. If only we had signed Peter Crouch. :p
NUFC: Given, Harper, Carr, Elliott, Ramage, Boumsong, Taylor, Faye, Bowyer, Parker, N'Zogbia, Clark, Emre, Brittain, Owen, Shearer, Chopra, Ameobi.

I still haven't adjusted to the reality that Owen is on our side.

Jewell makes that statement about Owen and he hasn't had anyone to get him the ball since he's gotten here. Scary notion...for the opponents, at least.

I predict 2-1, goals by Shearer and Owen. Shearer begins a goal-a-game scoring streak that culminates in him tying Milburn's NUFC record on Nov. 5 when I'm at St. James Park to see him pull off this feat in person (or better yet, scores two against mackems so I see him beat Milburn's record).

I see N'Zogbia has been working on his corner kicks. I wonder how many more he gets to botch this week?

20 minutes in...
Newcastle attacked for about the first 3 minutes. Jason Roberts hit the outside of the post for Wigan. Wigan seems to be getting forward better.
Newcastle needs a playmaker. N'Zog has missed 2 early balls in to Owen that would have resulted in a scoring chance. And has taken 2 more corner kicks that haven't cleared the first man. Bowyer, Parker and Faye are all defensive. Emre should come in by the 25th minute if healthy.
Elliot and Boumsong in the back are very shaky. Taylor a little less so. Carr is the right side playmaker.
Thx,
Jay!

We look awful. Have we strung together three passes in a row yet? Our defense is s**t once more all the while Shearer and Owen can't get any proper service. Everytime a Wigan player has been touched....be it the wind blowing or anything, there is a whistle and the ball goes back to the home side. I'm sick from watching this first half.

I guess Emre really isn't fit. Any idea if Chopra is on the bench?
I think it was either Parker or Owen who came back and played that ball past an onrushing Boumsong that freed up all the space for the goal. Parker is having another crap game (IMO, I still haven't seen what everyone else sees). He can't connect on passes forward. His one journey up the right side was lucky to wind up a corner, and he had a great breakaway that he couldn't get a pass off to Owen.
I also blame John Champion and Paul Walsh for going on about Given's 6 1/2 hour goalless streak before he conceded.
So hamstring injuries have tripled since the team has moved to their new training facility...

Bowyer left the game with an injury as well.....to add to this crap.
Coincidentally just as the announcers were talking about exactly how many minutes Shea has gone since giving up a goal......I dont' even need to say it.
Can we get this Wigan manager as one of our own? haha
