View Full Version : Stupid new trend in the music industry

I have noticed recently that it seems that almost every album that comes out on a major label nowadays is either enchanced in some way, comes with a dvd, or has links to "exclusive content." They even re release albums a year after they come out and add these extra stuff on them. Me personally If I wanna buy a record I just want the damn songs I dont want or need all this other crap. What a pathetic attempt by the music industry to stop falling record sales.

I think this is a reaction to mp3s and the like; having extra content gives you a reason to buy the CD instead of ripping it off of Kazaa. I don't think extra content alone will stop the slide, but anyway.

I concur with this for the most part. A lot of CDs with video on them are problematic on my PC, which is where I play my music at work. I've never even bothered watching the videos either.

Just an observation, but they seem to be moving away from single enhanced CDs and more towards just packaging a DVD with the CD.
Enhanced CDs weren't all that great and had potential software incompatibilities, but DVDs, I don't mind so much since I pretty much know what to expect and they work every time.
Of the three recent CDs that I bought with DVDs, Jurassic 5 and Ben Folds came with decent material, while The Roots' bonus disc was so so.

Actually, I don't mind the DVDs at all, I just hate the enhanced crap.

I've noticed that in addition to the enhancements and the dvds and what not, a lot of new recordings are coming loaded with CRAP 5.0, where in all the music really ************ing sucks on the aforementioned cds. I mean you pop it in the player and a bunch of obnoxious, tuneless crap comes out of your speakers. What's up with that?

If it says Milli Vanilli on the cover, it's going to be a Milli Vanilli CD. That's the whole point of having album covers.

I don't care for the enhanced cd's either. I rem, ember the very first time I put one in the computer and this stuff came up - I was thinking "What the hell is this? Why can't I play the cd?" Yes, I struggled with that one but as time went by I became a little bit more computer sound - no pun intended
Skipshady is right though. A lot of cd's are comign with just the DVD now. A few I picked up a while ago - Koop, has a bonus DVD that's actually pretty good. It has a rare/hard to find remix of Summer Sun on it - I only hear the remix on Brazilectro 4.
