Unfortunately, I've grown out of touch with any good new indie/hardcore/punk bands over the past couple of years. I'm hoping you guys could help out by offering some suggestions. I have a pretty wide range as far as taste in music...I'm just looking for some new good stuff that involves a guitar that rocks.

A little about my music background (if it helps at all): grew up with metal ('92-'97), grew more into hardcore ('97-present), hip hop ('98 to present) and indie rock ('98-present). Went to college in '98 and discovered more stuff beyond the radio in both rock and hip hop. Went to Italy in 2000 and developed a taste for techno. Of the popular stuff today, the only things I really like are Jimmy Eat World (I got into them pre Clarity) and the big 4 of the 'garage rock' sound (White Stripes, Hives, Vines and Strokes.)

Some the guitar bands I dig (all genres)...
Pavement
Deftones
System of a Down
At The Drive In
Modest Mouse
Get Up Kids
Helmet
Cave In
Will Haven
Badly Drawn Boy
Black Flag
Moment

Thanks for the help,
Charles

check out Plate Six. They've got some MP3s on their website and have opened for Fugazi and some other big groups before. They are also huge Pavement fans.

Thanks, I'll definitely check them out when I get home. Also, throw the Pixies and Weezer up there with my other bands

I was suprised that wasn't your first suggestion. We can always count on you for SF59.

What can I say, they're an awesome band? They crossed my mind recently, because the new CD just showed up in the mail :D I will report on it in a new thread once I've listened to it.

Sounds like you're exactly the target demographic for the band Piebald (referred to in an article as 'wuss-rock heavyweights'), which means you might already know about them.

Also, if you're not already into them, you might enjoy some of the emo-rock standards like Jets To Brazil, Promise Ring, and Pedro The Lion.
