"Some rappers have an arsenal filled with "pieces." Hip-hop mogul Jay-Z reportedly wants a piece of the Arsenal soccer team.

The future Mr. Beyoncé has been talking with team brass about buying a big stake in the London squad — whose symbol is a cannon and whose nickname is the Gunners, The Sunday Mirror reports today."

Another funny (or sad, depending upon your perspective) quote:
"A source from British newspaper Sunday Mirror says, "Jay-Z loves football - he thinks the whole scene is very bling. He has also met Henry and thinks he is really cool."

We won't need Chelsea's billions when we have Damon Dash holding players' moms out of very high windows to get them to sign...

jay-z buys up some shares in arsenal.

jay-z's connection with pal, thierry henry, lands the french superstar in a rap video and/or movie...

directed by spike lee, who's already asked henry to star in another flick with denzel washington...

arsenal shirts fly off the rack and futbol kits are the new tops on the streets here, with kids getting shot and robbed for bergkamp and campbell shirts...

Oh, now that's it right there, ain't it -- we need bling. F*** winning anything. If we're bling what more could we want?

It's actually me. I'm using Jay-Z as cover so nobody goes all Glazer on me.

Looks like its dime to dump the arsenal bus in favor of arsenal stretch hummers to get the team around. I wonder if they are going to give us rocawear uniforms too...

Looks like our french era is coming to an end. We are about to enter the hiphop era(hey at least we will be able to catch games on BET).

At half time the coaches are going to have to go to the center of the field and have a rap battle:

What you lookin' at Fergie, you got your ass kicked by Bergy
Our team got so much bling, and we will be pushin' down da wing
You came lookin' for some son, though you stank like dog poop
Don't come around here again or we are going to throw soup.
We watched your ass get sold just like diamonds n' gold, but unlike those things you dont make women sing.
Coz youre not on our level, you suck through and through
We had an unbeaten season and stole the FA cup from you.
You aint got game with the ogre the horse, but we will be takin' all your b*tches, and goal net with force...biatch

lets hope Arsenal's jersey is still nike and not Rocawear (Jay-Z's personal company) i would have more respact more arsenal if they sign and will sell more jerseys in n.a . big jay z fans would probably buy them, Jay Z would be a good part prez.

very intresting, i wouldnt mind as long as he didnt make Brooklyn Arsenal and put them in the USL or something like that. i think the urban football look will become more popular in the states..Adidas are trying it with their Czech and El Salvador collections...

I've gotta say that I would much much rather the jerseys said Roca (or damn near anything else) than to take money from Emirates (and that feeling is not based on their previous Chelsea tie).

But more on point, a black American entrepreneur injecting money into Arsenal is one helluva story. It's all talk, though.

I don't know why this is so ridiculous. He is a buisnessman with alot of money. People with that amount of money do stuff like buy into sports franchises. He's proboably significantly more intelligent than many other soccer owners whose fortunes involved some degree of hereditary wealth.
...and the Hip Hop jokes are almost universally dumb- it is, at least in Jay-Z's case) an industry like any other, just how he made his money. I mean, compare it with oil or diamonds (I remember hearing that's where fisman got his- but that unsubstantiated) or a number of other things that club owners and presidents have made their money from.

Yeah, um, we all make fun of those guys too. But we're not making fun of hip-hop here, we're making fun of Jay-Z. The two are far from synonymous.

He's doing it because he thinks its cool. Great, the only type of Yank I'd want investing in Arsenal is someone from here or ArseAm who's hit the lottery and wants a .01% stake just to support his club.

Speaking of which, I need to go check my Powerball ticket now.

Well I just hope we don't have to worry about being associated as gang members for wearing our Arsenal kits.

I don't really care much about Jay-Z, but if he wants to invest in Arsenal he can't be all that bad. Personally if I were loaded, I would invest in the club as well.

We'll see what happens.

Perhaps, but has his highness King Political Correctness conquered the entire world yet? Thankfully, no.

This dictionary may be of use to Arsenal fans, players and board members in the future: :)
