Hey guys I found an interesting and pretty concerning article on the Arsenal South Africa website!

UEFA gave Bayern Munich a verbal warning after their Champions League tie a few weeks back, the reason being, the name of Bayern’s new stadium is called the Allianz Arena. The stadium is massively sponsored by German insurance company, “ALLIANZ”. Bayern Munich have now been told by UEFA that for all upcoming home games in the Champions League, the name “ALLIANZ” in Allianz Arena will have to be blacked out as it is in the breach of their (UEFA) sponsorship deal for the Champions League.

According to UEFA rules, stadiums for Champions League fixtures must be free of any logos other than those officially marketed as partners of the competition, which means any stadium sponsored by another company must be 'neutralised'.

Now where does that affect Arsenal ? Well for next season in our, “EMIRATES” Stadium, we will be suffering under those very rules, that means the we could be playing at (plainly put) THE STADIUM, which I find silly (concerning UEFA) unless Arsenal can come up with a name for the ground on Champions League matchdays. UEFA are always quick to penalise clubs when it concerns sponsorship but when it comes down to bringing real advanced football technology into modern football, FIFA and UEFA are still light years behind.

Lets hope by the time we do get into the Champions League for season 2006/07, UEFA and Fifa have altered their rulings on sponsored named stadiums.

UEFA will just call it Ashburton Grove or Arsenal Stadium...no sweat. Few of us are calling it 'Emirates,' why should they?

I'll never call it Emirates Stadium. I am not more inclined to fly Emirates.
The Grove, Ashburton Grove, Arsenal Stadium is what I'll refer to it as.
