Hey, I got inspired by the thread in the Man U board to come out with this discussion as to what you think Wenger's biggest mistake while in Arsenal was. Personally, I think his biggest mistake was not getting Defoe when he had the chance to do so cheaply. Buying that POS called Francis Jeffers is a close second. So, what do you guys think? Other choices I can think of:
1) Playing Seamen wayyyyy beyond how long he should be played
2) Not getting a world class goalkeeper for the past few years
3) Selling Vieira for a pitiful amount of money
I am sure there is more, but I can't think of any right now.

This seasons whole transfer debarcle, and his inability to strengthen the squad with anyone over 25 which is supposedly the age when players start comming into their peek .
BTW :Wenger's biggest mistake PASCAL CYGAN

1) Ditching James, having never really given him a chance, in favour of Almunia.
2) Not signing Robinson when Leeds were going under
3) Not signing Ronaldihno for 60p when we had the chance. Bought Can of Diet Coke insead :(

Selling Vieira.
-We should have got more money
-Him lacking in the team wasn't the main problem, it is what the rest of the team now thinks. Henry and co aren't too sure they wanna stay anymore. I'm pretty sure Henry will leave now. :(

The amount of money we got for Vieira was pretty decent, yes we could have got alot more the previous season but 14 million for an ageing player who's best football at a premiership level is behind him now, is not a bad price.
He looks to suit the italian game alot better these days, its alot slower.
BTW, Tony Adams assessment that PV4's ability will detirorate quicker than most due to the fact that he has one leg shorter than the other seems to be quite true.

14million for a Championship winning captain? I still think we got taken. RMCF was offering 20-30 just one year earlier.
AW has serious issues with GK. That is his achilles heel. Almunia is sad and we all know it. So why on Earth did he scout him and bring him to Highbury?

He didn't. We got Almunia as part of a settlement for fiscal debt.

I still get frustrated when I think of how we could have gotten robinson from leeds for cheap.

The oft-repeated rumor on these boards and elsewhere is that Robinson failed a fitness test and therefore Arsenal passed on the deal.

He wasn't a championship winning captain when he went, in fact he had little or no impact at all last season.
Don't get me wrong, i love paddy and will always be greatful for what he did, but when all's said and done, he's not the player he used to be, and its better to take 14 million this year than nothing next!!!

Details, details..lol. Was the man a big part of all the trophies that were won over the past few years??? YES! That was my point.

You know the makeup of this board has really changed when nobody mentions SW11...
I'm going to go with the inability to sign a suitable replacement for Seaman, but I'll also acknowledge the fact that that's much harder to do than most people want to admit.

why is it everyone on this board is so negative. Instead of opening a thread what is your favorite Wenger accomplishment, it's only about the negative. For crying out loud all the man has done is lead this team to a top two finish every season he's been here. I mean really you are right finishing second is such a terrible job. We should protest to get one of the most successful managers in the england fired. Even if we finish fourth this year, I am not going to sit and blame the man who has brought so much success to my club. And along with that success he completely changed the style of football played at arsenal. No more boring boring arsenal thanks to Wenger. If he doesn't win another trophy while he's in charge I will have nothing but praise and respect for the man who gave me so many years of great football.

And instead of starting a "greatest achievement" thread you chose to complain, so maybe you should ask yourself why you're so negative!

1) Even in his last year, Seaman was still one of the top 5 keepers in the Prem
2) Lehmann is good enough for Arsenal.
3) Funnily enough Wenger doesn't decide the fee........
I doubt you can, but please let me know if you do..........

Hey but let's focus at all the good he has done. In my opinion we wouldn't even be in this position with the trophies we've won if he wasn't here for the past 10 years. Who knows where we would be... My successor to Wenger is Paul le Guen... Any thoughts?
