Training for Cesar, Cana and Nakata
Jean Fernandez had planed training in the late afternoon in order that the three international players could be a part of it. Indeed Koji Nakata, Bostjan Cesar and Lorik Cana came back from selection on Thursday in the day. They had a short training.
In Paris it was the same for Dhorassoo, Rozenhal, Pauleta and Semak. Yepes was only waited Friday in the capital.
Plans
Friday, last training at the Commanderie in the morning. Saturday, Olympians will go to the country after a training in the late afternoon at the stade Velodrome.
Eric Poulat, the man used to OM-PSGs
Eric Poulat was designed to referee OM-PSG. He is used to these confrontations. He directed debates in last April (1-1) but also in January 2004, in 16th finals of France Cup (1-2, after prolongations). He was also holding the whistle for the Marseille’s defeat in Paris in 1999-2000 (0-2).
He will also be assisted by Nelly Viennot, Daniel Bequignat and Olivier Thual.
Alonzo and his red shirt
Jerome Alonzo has good lucks to play Sunday his last match of season (after the defeat 3-0 at St Etienne and the victory against Lille 2-1) because of the Lionel Leitzi’s ankle-injury. A last point will be done to this effect on Friday by the PSG’s medical staff.
Waiting to know if he will play, Alonzo already predicted to wear a red shirt. And this is not coming by chance.«I’m a golf fan and my idol is Tiger Woods, who always plays on red on Sunday. I put it at the Velodrome when we won 3-0 in Mars 2003 and it stayed still.”, he said to he free daily20 minuteson Thursday.
Roche, and the destroying machine
«Of course, there is a big buzz, supporters’ passion… But this event is over mediatized”, says Alain Roche, the Parisian sports director, interviewed byPSG.fr. «I whereas keep in mind the memory of a match, three days after the Champions League final (won by Marseille in 1993). Face to a destroying machine, we conceded a goal from Boli. It’s the only one which I remember.»
Ribéry, the “surprise hope”?
The day after the Bleus get qualified for the World Cup, L’Equipe began to think about the 23 players list that will go to Germany. According to the daily, around twenty players are sure to be qualified. Only two sits will be left.«The Marseille player. Franck Ribery seems to have today the complete profile of the surprise Hope.», could we read in the daily’s columns.
A final of the game Fifa 2006 in the central round of the Vel on Sunday.
For the occasion of the new partnership with Xbox and Electronic ATrs, the first Marseille step of the “Football Club Challenge” (a tournament of the game Fifa 2006) will take place this week end. After the semi finals Saturday at the Hippodrome where Parisian and Marseille’s people will be assisted by two personalities supporter of Paris and Marseille: Nathalie Simon and Ladji Doucouré, the final will be played the day after, in the Velodrome’s central round, one hour before OM-PSG!
It will be question of supremacy, taps in the hands, between finalists. And all around them, the Velodrome audience could follow the duel on giant screens.

Do you tackle on this match differently towards last year ?
Last year, PSG won two times against OM, in championship and in cup, then it went down. Winning this match would be good, but we will all count on April. I compare championship to Tour de France. There are a lot of steps to pass through and Marseille is one of these steps.
What do you think about Jean Fernandez, the Marseille’s coach?
I know him for having him in coach, when I played at OM. He likes the ball, he is passionate. I have a lot of respect for him.
As an ex-player do you always pay attention to Olympique Marseille’s actuality.
I follow France Championship’s actuality. But I only played one year over there and 7 at Paris…
What will you say to your players before the match ?
Not asking questions! They are lucky to play this kind of match. It’s like a final. One says that one may possibly not play an other. They must take this match like an award. Above all, one must not be disappointed in leaving the ground. I want that at the final whistle we all say that we did our best.
Propos recueillis par Loïc Prigent
Fernandez : «A quality player»
Becoming Raymond Goethals’ assistant in January 1991, Laurent Fournier was under Jean Fernandez’s orders during several months. «I remember of a good player. He went through good clubs and he obtained good results in there. He had a big physical potential, and a good technique.«, reminds he Mediterranean technician«It was a very good partner thanks to a great mind. Now that he is a coach he is showing big talents. He made good work, the PSG second statement is telling it.».
Fournier, shortly
Tigana, Pardo, Germain, Vercruysse. When he comes to OM during the 90 summer, the coming from Saint Etienne Laurent Fournier (coming from Lyon) understood pretty fast that having a place in the sun would not be easy. The midfielder is good, both in quality and quantity.
Competition leads him on the bench when Beckenbauer coaches. He besides doesn’t play the two PSG matches in championship. We hardly remember of its goal at Poznan, in Chamion’s Cup 8th final.
Willing, fighting and sober, he doesn’t let go. The Bernard Pardo’s wound in March as he couldn’t play in an other statement, with also the fight Tigana-Goethals made him back on tracks. He ends up season exhausted. This day OM gets qualified for the 4th finals of France Cup winning against PSG. A beautiful victory 2-0, with a Fournier’s goal, who this way proves to partisan chiefs that he is good.
His continuing rising ends up in May, with two lost finals. The Bari’s one and the France Cup’s one against Monaco. He is in the official team twice.
However he will continue to rise under other skies. His France champion’s title won, he makes his luggage one more time. Direction Paris, where he plays with a lot of players (Germain and Prado are the two others) exchanged against the only Jocelyn Angloma. Histories of OM and Fournier are written in parallel…

What do you think about this match against Paris ?
After Nice, we worked with more serenity ? A match like this is preparing by itself. I would rather play Paris each day because there’s atmosphere, journalists are excited by this match, supporters are only waiting for it. We feel that training’s intensity is not the same, concentration is not the same too. Experience matches, this one in particular, at the stade Velodrome is always full of emotions. I can’t wait for this match, and like all players from Marseille I’m waiting for a big joy at the end.
This match against Paris is the beginning of several very important matches…
Until now the trainer made the team roll. Several matches ago, we lived the same break and then we played 7 matches in 21 days. We just lived a break, players are in national team and in 21 days we will once again made 6 matches. We will have to make it roll, not for allowing the majority to feel concerned, but to put on the ground the best team as possible. It’s psychologically impossible to play 7 matches in 21 days being at the best level.
This match will also be the Fabien Barthez’s return in the goals…
Fabien is a big goalkeeper. He has a big prize list and a big experience. He knows when he can take a breathe or when he must work doubly. Since I know him, I never saw him as determined, as conscientious in what he makes and what he undergoes. He give all the arguments, not to be even better because he is already among best goalkeepers of the world, but to show everyone his pleasure, his determination and his ambition to become again Olympique Marseille’s goalkeeper.
A lot of international players are left, is this difficult to prepare such a meeting?
Last week, there was not a crowd. We tried to recuperate. We could work technically if the group would have been complete. We had two trainings Tuesday, one very important Wednesday morning and recuperation in the afternoon.
You want to put an end to the nine matches without victories with the manner…
Beyond the sery, because a lot of players haven’t experienced it and it will be their first OM-PSG, what counts for us is to win this game in order to come back to three points from Paris. The manner with which we had a result at Sochaux and at Nice enjoyed me. We had an organised team, disciplined, convinced that from the time that if suffers united, it can tries to do something about it. We were a little bit lucky, this match could have been totally different if Cedric Carrasso hadn’t done two or three interesting stoppages in first period. I would prefer win 1-0 than losing in scoring 4 goals. I’m not interesting at giving satisfaction to supporters if we must lose 4 to 5. I would rather trample down the adversary one to zero.

Beware of Kalou
Just qualified for he Mondial with Ivory Cost, the ex Auxerre player is one of the key Parisian’s element, one of the most dangerous as Pauleta is missing. Analysis of the amazing Bonaventure Kalou’s game.
«It will be danger number one. I know him good. I will talk about it with my partners and we’ll find a solution. ». Abdou Méité talks as a man who knows, his ivory compatriot of the PSG, Bonaventure Kalou should be watched like the milk being cooked Sunday at the Velodrome.
Pauleta suspended, he will thus be the main offensive weapon of the Parisian team. Aged of 27, Kalou seems to be on top of his art. Watched by Guy Roux’s eye in 2003 at the dutsch of Feyenoord Rotterdam where its brother Salomon Kalou is about to follow the same golden road. Bonaventure comes to AJ Auxerre for a just a little bit of money and shows his whole qualities next to Cisse, Benjani and also Mexes. The following year in 2005, he even ends up his adventure in Ajaccio by a victorious goal in France Cup final face to Sedan.
Highly wanted during the half season, he chose the Parisian challenge and his season’s beginning confirms the biggest hopes. Inventive player, he could be compared to a Drogba or a Zokora, the symbol of an ivory football fresh and triumphant just qualified for the 2006 Mondial after an incredible scenario.
Midfielder very offensive, Bonaventure Kalou is a sort of half nine often decisive in the last thirty minutes. He can be an opportunist scorer, good with its two feet he scores in average 10 goals by season. He scored twice since the beginning of the 2005-2006 season.
But Kalou is especially a good player in the last pass, with its crossed dribbles he often give real gifts to his partners. Already three decisive passes this season. «It’s with Dhorassoo, one of the Parisian players able to make the difference at any time»thinks his ex partner Lorik Cana.
Only true player’s default, a certain irregularity. The Ivory can indeed sometimes completely fail his match.
But beware, his talent is often able to change a match. Even without Pauleta, Abdou Meïte must be vigilant so as the Marseille’s defence. Kalou should even play on his own on top this Sunday.

OM 1-0 PSG: Victory! http://s.om.net/om/image/article/illustration/5/809.jpg
A Lorik Cana header from a Samir Nasri corner gave Marseille their first win against their Parisian rivals since 2002. A huge win which sees the team move to within three points of second place.
OM 1-0 PSG
1-0 : Cana (79)
The win, at last! And it feels good, incredibly good. After such a long wait, victory was delivered thanks to the head of Lorik Cana. How symbolic. A win that ended the terrible run of results against PSG.
No more losing mentality. No more bad luck. No more bête noire. Marseille has drawn a line through the words that for three years have defined their OM-PSG vocabulary. These clichés have been consigned to the dustbin.
The result was a deserved one – that is the least we can say. The Olympians gave it everything, and then some. They harassed. They dominated. They battled. Ribéry and Oruma fought as though their lives depended upon it.
Yet despite all their best efforts, it appeared for a while as though Marseille could finish empty-handed. Despite being constantly on the ropes, the Parisians thought they would still emerge victorious. PSG were blessed with the good fortune of lucky charm Jérôme Alonzo and a lack of accuracy from the OM attackers.
And the shots were firing in from everywhere. Close-range, long-range, from every angle, every opportunity to shoot was exploited. It appeared only a matter of time before the goal came, but football is a funny old game and it could have been cruel had it not been for a brilliant Barthez denying Semak in the first half.
Barthez (Le Divin Chauve) was making his big return and he delivered everything that was expected of him. The central defensive trio of Cana-Andre Luis-Cesar did the rest, comfortably keeping the opposition danger at a respectable distance.
All that remained was to score that precious, liberating goal. Marseille came out from the half-time break even more determined. Franck Ribéry was getting the better of anything red and blue that stood in his way and, in the 65th minute, fired over the bar after carving out another great shooting chance.
Paris were stretched to the limit and in the 79th minute they snapped. Cana wrestled free of Kalou’s tight marking and climbed to head home Nasri’s corner. As the ball hit the back of the net, the Stade Vélodrome erupted in joy.
http://s.om.net/om/file/200510/psg_i_anigo.jpg
Jean Fernandez’s players then used every last ounce of energy to preserve their slender advantage until the final whistle. Literally being pushed beyond their physical limits by the supporters, the players fought the Parisians for every square centimetre of grass. At 10:50pm, they raised their arms to the skies in victory, as the scoreboard confirmed: “OM 1-0 PSG".
Another story began on Sunday night.

OM 1-0 PSG: Who said what!
Read what the big names from Marseille and Paris-SG had to say after OM’s 1-0 win…
http://s.om.net/om/image/article/illustration/5/810.jpg
Pape Diouf: The team won with courage
This win ended a series of results that was hard to live with for Marseille and the team won with courage and with talent. We’re not the champions of France – far from it – but over the last six games the team has taken steps back towards the top. But we’re keeping cool because we know there will be other big games. Fabien Barthez showed again that he is still the great ‘keeper we know him to be and he made one save that proved to be the turning point of the match. However, we mustn’t forget the work that Carrasso did at the start of the season, and I’m delighted that OM has two of the top three or four ‘keepers in the country.
Jean Fernandez: A big bravo to my players
We played against a good Paris side, defensively well organised, but we saw, over the course of the match that our victory was deserved. I’d like to say a big bravo to my players who did what they had to do to win the ball. They defended and came forward, creating lots of attacking possibilities. The goal was a little late in coming, but they kept their concentration. In the end it was a simple goal at the front post from a corner, something we worked on a lot this week in training. I’m proud to coach this team that beat Paris and the way in which they beat them. We were at the bottom after five games and everybody wrote us off. But here we are, three points off second place because we never stopped working. I’m happy for the players and the staff, but above all for the supporters.
Franck Ribéry: We did what we had to do
It was nine games that OM hadn’t beaten Paris and we all wanted to change that, the players, the coach and staff, for our fans. We did what we had to do. We created a number of chances, we put them under pressure and we played some good football. We started well, playing high up the pitch and pressing from behind. I’m delighted with these three points. My teammates said that the atmosphere this evening was even better than usual for OM-PSG. We on a good run with five win in six games and we’re going to get our heads down and concentrate on Thursday’s match against Moscow.
http://s.om.net/om/file/200510/psg_i_ribery_oruma.jpg
Sabri Lamouchi: No question we deserved to win
We played a good game, even if Paris did have two or three great chances in the first half. Fabien Barthez showed that after six months suspension he hasn’t lost what makes him a great goalkeeper. We were much better in the second half and we created a number of clean-cut chances. There’s no question we deserved the win. However more than ending the PSG hoodoo, the win was good for our championship, because we’ve climbed to just three points from second place. We haven’t achieved anything yet but the team is growing, we’re enjoying our football. We know our limits but we have a great desire to continue improving as a team. We’ve got a big three weeks now and we have to manage the congested calendar.
Laurent Fournier: The players gave everything they had considering the squad we had available. With five players missing it’s not easy, particularly in attack. We held in there, but we were lacking coordination, especially in attack. We came here looking for the result, but it’s not because we lose to Marseille that everything is lost. We’re still second on the table and we’ll continue to fight.

Echoes after the match against PSG
The trip to Moscow, Déhu's coming back ... Here are the echoes from the Commanderie.
http://s.om.net/om/image/article/illustration/5/818.jpg
Group to play in Moscow
Olympians will fly to Moscow on tuesday. Here is the group of 19 players to play the UEFA match on thursday:
Goalkeepers: Barthez, Carrasso
Defenders: Andre Luis, Beye, Cesar, Ferreira, Méïté, Taiwo, Nakata
Midfielders: Cana, Delfim, Lamouchi, Nasri, Oruma, Ribéry
Strikers: Gimenez, Mendoza, Koke, Niang
They will train on wednesday at the Dinamo Stadion where the match will take place thursday, against CSKA Moscow, at 5.30 PM, French time.
The Olympain will be back to Marseilles on friday.
Déhu, withdraw, is back to training
The defender (Achilles' tendon injury) was back to the training Monday morning. He won’t go to Moscow nor to Saint Etienne. On the other hand, Jean Fernandez counts on him for the matchs of the following week. Indeed, OM will still play two matches, the first in Bordeaux on behalf of the League cup, the second at the Vélodrome against Lille (L1 - 13th day).
Memories of Moscow
Last years, under the colors of PSG, Lorik Cana faced CSKA Moscow in the group H of the Champions League (CSKA 2-0 PSG and PSG 1-3 CSKA). “It is a frightening team. It lost one or two players but it has a solid framework nevertheless. With the outward journey match, we deserved to gain but we lost. With the return in Paris, they had been largely higher. They are strong defensively and well organized. The coach knows his team. They manage to set up a good tactical diagram. It is a dangerous formation. It is better to play them on their grass. Tactically speaking, we have more chance to play good in Moscow. "
The striker of Sunday starts to feel the matches of last week. However, he seems impatient to play the Russian team. “We will have to concentrate on us. It is the most serious adversary of the group, we know the importance of the first match in a group. The climate will be penalizing because the weather will be very cold. We are leaving two days before to become acclimatized”.
Barthez, leader
This morning, before the cleansing, the players met in the cloakroom. The Marseilles goalkeeper then spoke.
"Fabien spoke to us about our state of mind. He specified that the season doesn’t stop in Paris. It is important for the club, the supporters and the team but we must use it for the coming matches. That will be difficult, explains Lorik Cana, it will be necessary to answer present as we will be awaited. He asked us to remobilize ourselves because we can live beautiful things. We know the importance of the match against Paris. The result is positive but people would not understand that we stop here. It is necessary to call itself into question at each match”.
“The way is still long, adds Demetrius Ferreira, there are many matches and many competitions as the Uefa and the League cup. We must be ready for all these matches and especially not to throw in the towel or to flare up because we beat PSG”.
Cana, subscriber to defense
After Nice, Lorik Cana was aligned again in defense between Cesar and Andre Luis. A place he knows well. "I play much behind in national selection. But against Paris, after 10 minutes, we saw they played only with one in foront and that Semak remained between the lines, thus I played right in front of defense. We try to find a balance, it starts to come. It takes time but the base is good.
Work pays
Against PSG, OM scored the victory goal on corner. An exercise thaht Olympians worked in training. "The coach insists much on that, specifies Lorik Cana, because we have physically imposing players. During one season, a team must score six, seven or eight goals on stopped kicks" .
A charged calendar
Once again, OM will play 2 matches per week. And in the following fifteen days, they will move three times for a total of four matches. Thursday, they will be in Moscow, Sunday in Saint Etienne, next Wednesday in Bordeaux for the League Cup and they will finish this marathon, on Saturday October the 29th, at home, against Lille.

Statement from OM regarding changeroom incident
In an effort to silence the damaging rumours and insinuations that are currently circulating, the President of Olympique de Marseille and his board of directors would like to clarify the following points.
The club was the first party to bring the domestic incident to light and the media exposure which followed, engineered by certain parties, seems an over-reaction, designed to shock and to marginalise the team’s victory acquired on the pitch.
The reputation of Olympique de Marseille is at stake, but also the reputations of many individuals including the cleaners and municipal employees. People who every day ensure the smooth running and perfect welcome to the visitors of the Stade Vélodrome.
After having been investigated by the LFP match delegate on the evening of the game, the cleaning of the changeroom immediately became the most famous subject in France. We will prove that Olympique de Marseille and the city workers are not guilty of any malevolent act.
Moreover, the results of different expert appraisals, demanded by the club and the city in an effort to be remain totally transparent, will be sent to the LFP in order to get to the bottom of this ‘pseudo-incident’.
Along the same lines, the Club declares its firm intention to seek justice before the tribunal from the authors of the slander, lies, misleading interpretations and rumour-mongering.
The words attributed to and the judgements brought against the Sporting Director of Olympique de Marseille by his Parisian counterpart are not only out of order and unacceptable, but also irresponsible.
The name of Olympique de Marseille, its staff and partners, will not be dirtied with impunity.

Diouf/OM-PSG: "It confirms everything we said"
The Marseille President received the results of tests carried out on the Parisian changing-room from OM-PSG, last Sunday. The results failed to reveal anything seriously toxic.
http://s.om.net/om/image/article/illustration/5/850.jpg
Pape, you have received the results of an analysis of the Parisian changing-room during OM-PSG?
The analysis made after what we call a ‘domestic incident’ revealed the presence of a product called Kalydor and it was used to clean both changing-rooms. In this product there is a little ammonia necessary to clean satisfactorily. There were three bottles, the first two smelled of ammonia and the third smelled of the sewer. All this confirms what we have said from the start, that this product was not used deliberately for any other purpose other than giving the two changing-rooms a less offensive smell. We will give a video cassette to the League which clearly shows the Parisians arrival at the changing-room, their settling-in, without exhibiting the slightest signs of having been poisoned. It appears that the Parisian coach enters last. It’s then that we see Mr Fournier cannot breathe, despite the players entering earlier not suffering from anything.
It was above all an effort to unsettle things from the Parisian camp…
I think, more or less, that it was a deliberate effort on the part of the Parisian coach to poison the atmosphere before, during and after the match. We can throw all of what he said, regarding OM using old tricks, back in his face. I think it was him, in fact, that was employing rather undignified tactics.
What will be the next steps involving this incident?
We have to present ourselves in front of the League on Thursday, October 27, to present our arguments regarding how we acted and a statement from our head of security, Guy Cazadamont. I think at that moment, this whole big controversy will burst all by itself. We certainly won’t be preparing ourselves for war like the Parisian coach and some of his staff.
