So in 36 games he has scored 'when it matters' and the 'crucial goal' just 6 times. As I said previously he has only scored 14 Champions League goals in his career to date. It is clearly a weakness of his, notably in comparison to his peers.
Sure the difference is that he actually has a CL and he played quite well in the CL the year that Barca won it. Of his current peers: Villa, Torres, Berbatov, Ibrahimovic, ext... none of them has a CL.

Ibra is the most talented and skilled striker, but there are better strikers in different systems, ie Etoo Torres are more direct and efficient...so it depends on what formation and type of striker is needed. But as far as the most talented imo it is Ibra.

Any love for Vedad Ibisevic (Hoffenheim). 17 goals this season.

One season wonder? We simply cannot tell at this stage.

Football is a team game. Of those strikers you listed only two are currently at clubs that have shown any chance of being able to win the CL. Of the two only one has a full season at said clubs. Regardless of what you try to claim the fact remains that Eto'o, for a striker of his standing, has a poor CL scoring record.

As I seem to recall, this thread is titled "Best Striker in the World now". I'm not saying he is the best in the world right now, but I think he deserves credit for being the top scorer in Germany by quite a bit.

Well this is Eto'os 5th season in the CL right now and the past two seasons he's struggled with fitness and injuries. In 06/07 he only played 3 games.
Eto'o when fully fit has proven to score plenty of goals in the league and CL.
His record in 04/05 and 05/06 in the CL when he was fully fit was 10 goals and 4 assists in 18 matches in total.

Scoring charts and the history books will not read:
Eto'o
* gammy knee, should be higher

Scored the crucial opener against Bayern yesterday, his team couldn't just hold on, took Bayern to the 90' and we got lucky with a late goal from the not-in-form Luca Toni. :D

No, but they will read Eto'o: CL winner, scored in the final ;).

Fcking Vladimir Smicer will read the same. What in the world does that have to do with anything?

Huh? Read the entire argument and get back to me. Trying to downplay Eto'o because of his CL record is ridiculous when you consider that he's scored plenty when fit and that he played a crucial role in actually winning it. Not one of the current crop of "best strikers in the world now" can claim that. Not only that but his league scoring record over the past 5 seasons has been superior than that of his peers.

Why does scoring in a CL Final and winning it make him better than anybody else?

Please tell me that you're not trying to use trophies to base on how good a player is.

Must mean Materazzi's good as he scored in the World Cup final to tie it up.

No, his league scoring record and his current form makes him better than everyone else. That just adds to the point that he's been good in the CL which was the original argument. You would have known that if you had been paying attention.

he's NOT good in the CL, though. It's as teso said, he's only scored the "crucial" goal 6 times, the CL final is one of those 6. He's only got 14 in the CL, he's NOT good in the CL.

whats your point? he's only got 14 goals. Teso was right(again, which is really weird for me to say), but the recordbooks or historians don't care about his injuries.
