There is no 'best'. You only have categories.
A category are in my opinion: Samuel Eto'o, David Villa, Ruud van Nistelrooy <----those 3 score always and everywhere, Fernando Torres and maybe Alessandro Del Piero (if younger for sure). I was always impressed by David Trezeguet too, never got the credit he earned.
Zlatan scores beautiful goals, but misses too much easy chances, Cristiano Ronaldo is more of a winger (and is only 1 season on top), Shevchenko was one of the best but he is history, as is Raul. Rooney still isn't at the constant A category level, but he is good.
There are not many real A-class strikers today, maybe they will stand up one of these days, but the last years the people in the picture where more the midfielders/wingers, like Messi, C.Ronaldo, Gerrard, Robben, Kaka, etc, etc.

Cristiano Ronaldo is more of a winger (and is only 1 season on top)
He is a forward who plays from the wing. He has two full seasons of best player in the world form and prior to that he was putting in best winger, at least in the Premiership, form.

Anelka has to do it for more than 12 games before he can possibly be considered the best striker in the world. Besides a striker has to have a better strike rate of 1 goal every 3 games to be classed as the best.
And before some chump claims he has scored 12 or so this season alone - his record for his career is 1 goal in 3 games almost exactly and his record for Chelsea before the West Brom game was also 1 goal in 3 games exactly. I like the lad but he is not the best in the world.

i said one of the best
and i assume this thread is talking about current strikers in their respective clubs at the moment, not what they did last season or what their stats say
if not then there is no point to this thread, we would have to judge them at the end of the season

Well without agreeing on a time-frame to judge it is difficult to agree on a player. Most would agree that one third of a season is too little time to claim someone is the best striker in the world. This is why a longer time-frame (of at least a year) is usually used. Otherwise we end up with a different candidate every week when someone scored a hat-trick in an easy fixture.

If that's really all you have to say, maybe you should consider watching this season.

Anelka. Hmm. Just scored his second goal of the day. Although he doesn't contribute anything else besids finishing, I will hold my hands up and say that maybe he is worthy of slight consideration, but only if he continues this great goalscoring form.
what else do you want from a striker. there job is to score goals. and he is doing that for one of the biggest clubs in the world. in the ruffest leauge known.

Not when he was fit. If he could have been relied upon then we would have never sold him nor signed several other attacking options.

Agree, when he was not injured and full of confidence, he was a great attacking option and made smart runs for man utd's midfield

Phil and Teso are two gay PPL with an opinion on the game we all most respect their views even if they f.u.ck each other in the ass while looking at Zidane / C.Ronaldo posters.
