I would say right now Villa or Torres(when healthy).
While on the topic, I know hes not on the top form he was last year, but where would you guys rate Karim Benzema? I see the ceiling being higher for this kid than ive seen in a while for a young striker.

The best striker in the world debate is flawed.
It seems that the opinion of many on this Forum, or at least Teso, who posts so much that it may seem like it's a ton of people, is that THE MOST IMPORTANT CRITERIA FOR "BEST STRIKER" IS.... SCORING GOALS.
Let's agree on that for arguments sake,
As history has proven time and time again, successful teams win championships with strikers that don't score an significant amount of goals (perhaps not even the most on the given team).
Because the way we evaluate every other position (IE Goalie, Defender, Midfielder... hell even coach) with criteria that has direct correlation with success of said team. I feel that this is a bit pointless and should focus on strikers who contribute the most to winning football or make other players better. Not just score goals and then do back flips.
Also, Whats the point in deciding who's the Best Striker in the world when teams can win World Cups with Luca (riga) Toni up front.

So then... who's the best striker in the world?

When we're talking about all around skills, then zlaten might be your guy. But as far as pure goal scoring prowess; David Villa takes the cake. He is scoring for the Spanish and leading La Liga with Valencia.
Zlaten has gone through like a year drought for Sweden without scoring before the Euro. Case closed.

So then... who's the best striker in the world?
It's Torres. Regardless of how many goals he has or hasn't scored.
The midfield is largely the same at Liverpool. (I mean they have a guy that used to be on City when we were shit for god sakes). I actually think they're backline has gotten worse over the years. But he is the overwhelming reason they are punching above the perenial Bottom of the Top Four belt.
His hustle, control, and savvy allows Gerrard to play his (albeit lazy) game. Like Rooney, he is great at occupying defenders and creating space for others. He works very hard off the ball and is an Excellent targetman and boxes out well for a player. A striker without physicallity is not a striker I want on my team in the contempotary game.
Eto'o has gotten his form back and diserves much praise, but the amount of time needed for him (eto'o) to hold the ball up for his two other upfront players and/or attacking mids is a task that is almost easy when compared to the proximity of the players like Kuyt, Riera, Babel who's strict defensive responsiblities make for a longer typical transition when in the attack.
Torres leaving spain represents a change in heirarchy of European football. The Prem, from top to bottom, has become the most competitive league in the world for a number of reasons, so not only him being the most valuable striker in the prem help in him getting this lofty title, but Torres being the most valuable striker in THE BEST LEAGUE ON EARTH also helps in these regards.
To put it simply, we all saw liverpool before Torres... no other stiker in the world could do what he did for that team.

Liverpool is a flawed team, with a flawed manager and flawed owners.
ok, your an idiot! who is undefeated in the epl and ucl? Who is at the top of the chart in the epl? Who just ended chelseas home win streak of 89? Who is the most sucessful english club ever? whats wrong with with Rafa? and whats wrong with the owners? they brought in so much talent! Babel, Torres, Keane, Skirtel, Masherano,.... and more to come.:p

he said foolish mistakes, not just mistakes
The point stands.
Exactly, I said foolish mistakes, ill-advised ones. Your point does not stand because Rooney still makes these ill-advised plays moreso than other top strikers.

No, he does not.

No, he does not.
Are you trying to say Villa and Torres make more needless chip-shots, ill-advised give and go's than Rooney? If so, you have obvisouly not been watching any of the players.

You have clearly not watched Rooney and are guilty of basing your opinion on him from several years back when he was a less mature player. Your 'foolish' and 'ill-advised' comments are, as expected, entirely to do with football decisions which every single player is guilty of.

So Torres is ideally suited to the PL. For Atletico Madrid and Spain nobody calls or called him the best striker in the world. He does very well in England and suddenly he's the best striker in the world. Funny how that works.

He does very well in England and suddenly he's the best striker in the world. Funny how that works. That's what happens. Look at Zola. He was just another player at Parma, although a very good one, and then he goes to England and he's player of the year and some call him the best Chelsea player ever. Same thing with Torres. I just wonder what would happen is the really great players in La Liga and Serie A went to England.

There are cases back and forth of players who werent so good in epl and were good in italy scheva, or crespo. So i think its just the different types of football that suite the different players.
