Both Toni and Gomez had shit Euro's. Fact.
I suppose more was expected of Toni though.

well then dont define david as one dimensional, when he has barely played and well how can he mesh with other players when he doesnt get playing time with them huh?

Others, like Ronaldo of Brazil, fall flat on their face during a World Cup.
You mean just one World Cup, correct?

I expected more from the two playing behind Toni than Toni himself. At NT level he is more of a provider than a finisher.

I agree that he had little support during the run of play Teso, and that others share the blame. But he had chances he normally converts and did not. I and I think most Italians expected him to finish a few of them, therefore he has been criticized. After all, he has scored more than 60 goals in the last couple of seasons, many of them more difficult than the ones he missed at the Euro. Del Piero and Cassano were disappointing in my opinion, and should have been more aggressive, which helped to make us ineffective as well. The Spain match to be honest was lost before it started, as Donadoni looked scared and constructed his squad that way tactically. Other than the ball bouncing around in Spains "area piccola" it never felt like we were going to score.

That was my point exactly. The ONE World Cup where he had the panic attack before the Final di not end up defining his career. He ended up scoring more goals and returning to the final again. But he is finished now as a player and should not really be included in the present discussion. That was just an example to show that Toni ios not finished, Cruz is not a terrible finisher - normally - and neither, I suppose is Suazo, under the right circumstances. Sometimes you only get a small window of opportunity, in life, however, and Suazo did not make the most of it. Not everyone will get repeated chances at success at the highest level like Ronaldoa and Del Piero (how many times has he resurrected his career?) Cristian Vieri would have loved one more chance from Marcello Lippi, but his injury incurred in France cut his comeback to the national team short. Roberto Baggio begged for one more chance from Lippi's predecessor (and deserved it) but did not get the call. The window is a small one.

I agree.
Finally some common ground! That is what these debates should produce occasionally.

It will be good to see what Berbatov can do with a quality 'supporting' cast for a change.
