Plus that is incorrect as Adeybayor hit 104 shots and countless others, including midfielders, hit over your 69 shot claim.

Premiership Shot on Goal leaders -

Cristiano Ronaldo - 109

Wayne Rooney - 69

What about Humberto Suazo? His stats are pretty impressive.

Well if we are going to suggest players from the FMF, then how about the best player playing in the Americas ;)

<SNIP>

The fundamental point is that Ronaldo takes the majority of our freekicks and he shoots for goal most of the time. The other strikers on the list do not even take freekicks for their team. Therefore the obvious conclusion (which you are more than free to prove/disprove) is that doing so increases the number of shots he takes and decreases his shots to goal ratio in direct comparison to the strikers on the list.

Well you didn't say best striker you said the "best player playing in the Americas". Cabañas certainly has a case for being the best striker in the Americas. He's not the best player.

Dude... From wikipedia:

South American Footballer of the Year

The South American Footballer of the Year award is given to the best football South American player currently active in a South American club. Started in 1971, it was awarded until 1992 by the Venezuelan newspaper "El Mundo", and was considered the official until 1985. Since 1986, Uruguayan newspaper "El País" chooses the "Rey del Fútbol de América" (America's King of Football), which is, since then, considered the official award.

Winners from last 8 years:

2000 Romario Vasco da Gama
2001 Juan Román Riquelme Boca Juniors
2002 José Cardozo Deportivo Toluca
2003 Carlos Tévez Boca Juniors
2004 Carlos Tévez Boca Juniors
2005 Carlos Tévez Corinthians
2006 Matías Fernández Colo-Colo
2007 Salvador Cabañas América

Cabañas is not only the best striker in the Americas but also the best player. Riquelme, in his current form, is far from that.

Actually, in a general comparison, I think right now Salvador Cabañas is in better moment as a player than Riquelme, who probably neither is the best midfielder in South America at this moment.

The Paraguayan could be considered as the best striker and player of this continent perfectly.

Also the same non striker who took double the shots of ANY other premiership player. Around 120 shots, with the #2 coming it at 69 shots.

31 goals on 120 shots seems a decent enough return. Scoring on 1 in 4 shots seems a good return for a midfielder.

And this means what exactly? Riquelme got nominated for World Player of the Year in 2007. The way he lead Boca to the Libertadores was far superior to anything Cabañas did in 2007.

How is Cabañas a better plaer than Riquelme? Riquelme led Boca to a Libertadores and a second place finish in the league last year, this year he led them to the semi-finals despite being struck by injuries.

Who's the top scorer in the WCQ's right now? It's Riquelme despite being a midfielder.

Get off it. Riquelme suffered from numerous injuries this season which plagued his play. That doesn't mean that he's suddenly not the best player playing in South America.

Big deal the kid took a lot of shots. Why is that such a bad thing? I can understand if he scored only 10 goals and took all those shots but he scored 41 goals.

Give me a player who can create for himself like ronaldo and gives himself the chance to take shots throughout the game. Unlike some strikers who have no clue how to create for themselves and couldn't score 41 goals if they took 200 shots on goal.

To me I look at those stats and the first thing that comes to mind is that ronaldo must have dominated everybody all year for him to get so many chances on goal.

How nice of you to only single that out. It's that among many other things. And it's saying a lot considering he's a midfielder.

Once again you argue for the sake of arguing. Do you even follow South American club football?.

its ridiculous that you use goals in wcq to determine who is the best midfielder
