Totti only nominally plays as a striker and Roma's system is setup to allow him to drop back to influence the play and utilise the overlapping runs of players like Mancini, Taddei and Giuly. That's before we take into account the use of Vucinic

That's before we take into account the use of VucinicTotti plays as STK most of the time not nominally yes he does drop back but hes always up top as STK.Spalleti plays Totti as a STK more than he does Vucinic.Ok what about when Totti plays up top by himself which is half the time what is there 6 mids 4 def and one GK and no STK.Spalleti made a conscious decision to move Totti from Attackmid/FWD to STK

I have not read the whole discussion, but this time I'm with Teso. It all depends on your interpretation, but for me a striker is the center-forward (what is called in Spain a "ariete") and other players like Messi, Totti or Raul are second-forwards or wingers.
Current top strikers: 1- Drogba, 2- Van Nistelrooy, 3- Samuel Etoo, 4-5 Klose & Toni (or Toni & Klose).
Ibrahimovic is top class and could have the mould to be a striker, but I think he is there more to give the final pass.

I'd put Robinho in for Toni.

Precisely. Had L.G.S bothered to read the thread then he would have realised that countless other forwards (like Messi) have already been mentioned.
I don't give a shit. The only thing you need for this thread is the title and a player that fits in that category. Deviate all you want but the topic of this thread is the best striker in the world, not best striker or position-close-to.

Its MAD!!?? that posters on this thread consider Robinho a STK and Totti not a STK.If you have watched RM and Roma matches Totti plays in much more of a STK role for Roma than Robinho does for RM I mean Robinho is on the wing half the time WTF!!??

Agree, but when your considering who is the best striker that means playing up top and not on the wing at the forward posistion. I think you leave out Ronaldo because he is always the winger in almost every game i seen him play this year in the EPL. Messi is a winger too, but i have seen him player striker in every Argentina game since the Copa America just like someone posted on the previous page before. But my top 3 would be
1. Drogba
2. Ibra
3.Eto
Henry use to be up there and he's starting to age and has lost most of his form but for a lot of his carrer was a top 3 striker

But on the post above i meant i agrred about Robinho playing at right mid and Totti playing striker. Totti usually players stroker as Robinho mostly plays right mid as a winger

I have already had countless arguments over this previously in the thread. Despite that people have continually included forwards in the discussion. You (plural) cannot have it every way. If forwards are continually brought up then Ronaldo clearly merits inclusion.

Robinho has been playing on the left hand side of a front 3 for most of the season, though against Farsa he reverted to a more traditional LW position.
Other than a few games at the start of this season he has hardly ever played right mid for Madrid.
Anyway, the best striker in the world right now is Ruud...end of....move along now people. :p

Top 10 current in no particular order....
Torres
Drogba
RVN
Ibrahimovic
Villa
Eto'o
Rooney
Crespo
Klose
Tevez
You cannot include Totti, Robinho, C.Ronaldo, Messi, Ronaldinho as they are not out and out strikers.

Neither are Rooney or Tevez.

And Rooney and Tevez are?

Rooney and Tevez are strikers. Messi and C Ronaldo and Kaka are not. They are attacking midifelders.
Playing as a second striker rather than the finisher is still a striker and Tevez and Rooney are examples of this. However this is a form of striker. Tevez and Rooney can be discussed in this thread as they are strikers.

It gets tricky then when you consider that in some cases, i.e. Francesco Totti, the line between a support striker and a central attacking midfielder is quite blurry.

Totti is an unusual case. As I understand it, he is not normally a striker but an attacking midifelder but he has played up front for Roma quite a lot in the last few years. As I have not watched Roma play in that time, I would not state that Totti cannot be classified as a striker. A forward definitely but a striker I cannot say, without observing him more. Viewers of recent Serie A seasons could talk with accuracy on Totti's positional classification whereas I cannot.

Messi and Ronaldo are forwards but I understand the point you are trying to make. It does not apply here though, as the poster wrote under his list...

Neither are Rooney and Tevez, which was the point we clearly made and one I'm sure you will agree with now.

I discussed Totti and his role in my recent series of posts in this very thread.
