Robben has been injured for an eternity, only a fool would compare his influence on Madrid already.
As for his influence for the Dutch, when healthy he is their most dangerous player, .
I thought van nistelrooy was the main man ?

As an Arsenal supporter it pains me to say this but, when healthy, I think the nod needs to go to Drogba. He has incredible strength and consistently scores in what is arguably the toughest league in the world.
Honorable mention (in no particular order): Totti, RvN, Zlatan
Adebayor (on current form) might get there soon. Tremendous work rate.

Nistelrooy is their most dangerous scorer (the Dutch's), but the most dangerous in attack (including taking on defenders, opening up the field by drawing players, etc) is Robben (when healthy obviously)

Robben is behind Van Persie, Van der Vaart and Sneijder in terms of importance and influence.

only recently because of injuries. When healthy your statement is completely incorrect.

Not at all. The bulk of Robben's end product (which is why he is supposed to be in the side) has been poor when it comes to competitive games. The players I listed all offer more and on a more regular basis. Nothing against Robben (as his pace and directness can be a good option to have) but overall the others have more to offer.

List these competitive games he's been poor in, it's already been apparent that your rating on his world cup performances has been incorrect.

FFS create another thread solely about Robben or just stop.
All this talk about Robben and Holland is irrelevant to this thread and is ruining it. Unless you can make it relevant to "the best striker now" thread then just take it to the PMs and slug it out there.

C.Ronaldo and Santa Cruz are the best strikers right about now.

Agreed.
ATM Torres is one of the best strikers in England right now. He has been in red hot form as has Santa Cruz.

just being on red hot form doesn't make you the best striker in the world...
Lets see if it continues with Santa Cruz but with Torres i agree, he is world class
Overall, i think RVN is best in the world just for the number of goals he scores

Better in poor form or being injured doesn't either.

Dimitar Berbatov, Fernando Torres, Didier Drogba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Ruud Van Nistelrooy, and Samuel Eto'o are the candidates at the moment for me.
Eto'o has just got back from injury, but one of his goals, a few weeks ago against Valencia was breathtaking
It's difficult to tell, but i think long term, it will be between Eto'o and Fernando Torres.
Currently, its probably Eto'o, Drogba or Van Nistelrooy, its difficult to narrow it down. Eto'o can be, frankly, devastating in front of goal in terms of scoring out of nothing, Van Nistelrooy just always scores, and Drogba is a beast of an athlete, his physique makes it impossible for him not to change a game sometimes either by scoring or setting up a goal.

Most of the players you've mentioned like Van Persie, Robben and Messi are wingers, although Van Persie does play as a striker for Arsenal most of the time.
However, he doesn't score often enough, he only seems to score great goals occasionally.
Luca Toni is a great poacher, but he hasn't shown himself to be the best on the world stage or in the Champions League. I know he won the World Cup, but he didn't score many goals. You really have to be top Scorer to even be considered for the best striker in the world tag.

I agree but the thread is callest "best striker now" so Santa Cruz definetly deserves inclusion as he's been sparkling in the league.
Anyways based solely on this season Santa Cruz has been better than Torres simply for the reason he is playing in a lower table team like Blackburn and doesn't have trouble scoring goals away from home like Torres does.

Ronaldo isn't a striker.

Ronaldo isn't a striker.
Correct but he is a forward so I included him anyways.

Precisely. Had L.G.S bothered to read the thread then he would have realised that countless other forwards (like Messi) have already been mentioned.

Teso, you post a lot but I don't recall you putting up a name for debate..
Which striker do you reckon right now is better than Santa Cruz (excluding Ronaldo)?

Ok I'll try to sort this out for you guys.
Generally speaking the main role of a striker is to score and the main role of a forward is to assist. Obviously the lines are blurred in some cases but if you are in the side for more than goals then you are classed as a forward. Therefore the likes of Messi, Ibrahimovic, Totti, Rooney and Van Persie are forwards. Out of that quintet I would only include Ibrahimovic, Totti and Rooney when discussing strikers. Ibrahimovic because he is one of the few who blurs the lines (like Henry before him) and the latter duo because they nominally start as the main striker in their sides.
If you are going to lump wing-forwards (at best) like Messi into the equation then you open the parameters too much and it also means the likes of Ronaldo must also be included as well. He is a forward that is nominally played on the wing. He just plays with more defensive responsibility than Messi.
I would include Messi, IMO, because his prefferred position is striker/forward. that was the positon he played with Barca's Reserves,Argentina YNT, still mostly plays with their senior national team and plays there occasionally with Barca. therefore I would include him in this discussion.

C.Ronaldo and Santa Cruz are the best strikers right about now.
And C. Ronaldo is not a forward you see, because he consisently plays on the wing. He plays on the wing for Man Utd. He plays on the wing for Portugal and too my knowledge(I could be wrong here) when fergie brought him in from Lisbon he was a winger there as well. Therefore he does not belong in this discussion, no matter if you think he plays like a forward.
Players like Robben or Sneijder do not not belong because like C. Ronaldo they play primarily midfield. Players like Van persie I would put on this list because though he plays wing forward for Holland and was converted into a striker, he plays at the top of the front line at Arsenal.
