If you intend on carrying this on, let's keep it to PMs so as not to ruin it for other posters. If not, then give it up and get back on topic.

This may be the most mind-numbingly pointless devolution of a great thread ever.
A warm round of applause for phil80. Well done son.

yawwn. as stated before it happens a lot when Teso and mrtwix are involved in a thread. Teso goes around telling people to "admit defeat", if that's not the stupidest thing on BigSoccer than I dont know what is.
Hopefully now the thread can get back on track.

More off-topic nonsense from the usual suspects.
Back to the thread: Ibra, Klose, Luca Toni, Ruud, Robinho, Tevez, Rooney, Van Persie, Adebayor, (and Suazo has the potential)

Do you even know what you're talking about anymore. The petty putdowns don't suit you.

Well done. Apart from Van Persie, they all deserve inclusion.

Screw it, I'm going to contribute to getting this thread back to what it was supposed to be.
My top 10 strikers in the world:
1. Lionel Messi
2. Miroslav Klose
3. Zlatan Ibrahimovic
4. Francesco Totti
5. Didier Drogba
6. Ruud van Nistelrooy
7. Wayne Rooney
8. Luca Toni
9. David Trezeguet
10. Robin van Persie
For the record, in my view, if you play as part of the forward line, you're a forward. And I have yet to hear a convincing argument against a forward and a striker being essentially the same umbrella category in today's game.

No Ronaldo, Tevez or even Torres..?

Tevez and Torres are my #11 and #13, respectively, and if you're talking about Cristiano I consider him a midfielder rather than a forward. Otherwise, he'd surely top the list.

Generally speaking the main role of a striker is to score and the main role of a forward is to assist. Obviously the lines are blurred in some cases but if you are in the side for more than goals then you are classed as a forward. Therefore the likes of Messi, Ibrahimovic, Totti, Rooney and Van Persie are forwards. Out of that quintet I would only include Ibrahimovic, Totti and Rooney when discussing strikers. Ibrahimovic because he is one of the few who blurs the lines (like Henry before him) and the latter duo because they nominally start as the main striker in their sides.
Tevez and Torres are my #11 and #13, respectively, and if you're talking about Cristiano I consider him a midfielder rather than a forward. Otherwise, he'd surely top the list.
If you are going to lump wing-forwards (at best) like Messi into the equation then you open the parameters too much and it also means the likes of Ronaldo must also be included as well. He is a forward that is nominally played on the wing. He just plays with more defensive responsibility than Messi.

Having read that I understand that on one hand I include players in the position they nominally play in and one the other I include players despite the position they nominally play in. I guess my main point is that if you includes players who normally start wide like Messi then you must also do so for Ronaldo. The only difference between that duo is the level of defesive responsibility they respectively have.

maybe two years ago, but if you've seen him at Barca, he is constantly missing sitters and breakaways that most division 3 strikers would put away. That's not to say he cant refind his form but for the past year and a half he has not proven to be among the best, far from it actually.

You're wrong.
Robben tried to dribble past everyone and didn't succeed. His wannabe matchwinner runs were overall detrimental to the whole Dutch attack as he should of been more of a team player.
Imo he had a negative impact on the the dutch side, unless you were watching a different team than I?
Robben was part of the three-men attack just like Ruud was. All three of them suffered from the fact that the team as a whole didn't play very well. Blaming Robben and Van Persie simply indicates to me that you're not very aware of the dynamics of a football team.
On a side note, what makes me laugh about these 'Holland were rubbish at the world cup' posts is the fact that people seem to forget that they did manage to get to the second stage of the tournament from what was immediately labelled the group of death. Would people who found Holland so rubbish care to explain to me how exactly they believe the Dutch managed to get past the Ivory Coast and the Serbs? Thank you.

*Yawn*
You stating that I blamed Robben and Van Persie indicates that you failed your reading comprehension in school.
Anyways, this is the best striker now thread. Don't ruin it with something that's irrelevant to the thread, old and has already been discussed.

Your typical ignorance.

Rubbish. Van Nistelrooy and Kuyt clearly suffered because of the respective performances of Robben, Van Persie and Sneijder. If you cannot comprehend why that was the case then it is your who is not aware of the dynamics of a football team or 4-3-3 as a system.
On a side note, what makes me laugh about these 'Holland were rubbish at the world cup' posts is the fact that people seem to forget that they did manage to get to the second stage of the tournament from what was immediately labelled the group of death. Neither the Ivory Coast nor Serbia and Montenegro were even expected to qualify for the tournament. The former continued the tradition of African sides when faced up against more tactically astute rivals and the latter got to the tournament on the basis of their defense, a defense they will unable to field during the tournament.
