I'm going to go with Hamburg here, they are in stellar form and have found a superstar in VDV. They did get rid of Valenica, a former UEFA Cup winner also ;)

he-he-he. :D
I'd like to say AZ but until the CL dropouts coming you can't really say.
If there is one thing UEFA should change it is that.

Actually I was being serious.
Boro are a strange team, on their day, they are capable of beating anyone.
Their day, of course, consists entirely, of whether their defense has removed their heads from their arses, before leaving the dressing room.

They also have arguably one of the strongest strike forces (on paper) in the competition. Hasselbaink, Yakubu, and Viduka are all matchwinners

A lot of this depends on how things shake out with Champions League, but there are a couple of teams I'd peg as coming out of the UCL with a realistic shot of taking the trophy, like whoever gets dropped between Fenerbahce and PSV, and Rangers or Porto. For my money, I think Porto and PSV get dropped in, making them odds on favorites along with Hamburg and CSKA Moskva, two sides which I think are the class of the present 40 team field.
In case anyone cares, here's my estimated 32 team knockout field.
Monaco, Hamburg, Viking, Hertha Berlin
Steaua Bucuresti, Lens, AS Roma, Basel
Crvena Zvezda, Stuttgart, Shakhtar Donetsk, Rapid Bucuresti
Lokomotiv Moskva, Palermo, RCD Espanyol, AZ Alkmaar
Middlesbrough, Dnipro, Olympique Marseilles, CSKA Moskva
Dinamo Bucuresti, Besiktas, Bolton, Sevilla
UCL Drop-ins
Brugge
Bremen
PSV
Betis
Villarreal
Rosenborg
Porto
Thun

Monaco, Stuttgart and Hamburg. HSV have looked impressive so far especially with Van Der Vaart in their side.

1) Monaco [FRA]
Is that the same Monaco that is 11th in La Liga? The Monaco that managed to score 7 goals in 10 games? The Monaco that sacked their manager?

No, it's the other Monaco that is 11th in the Ligue 1. :D

Well, about the french Monaco, maybe they don't deserve their first place in ganu's ranking but they're still a very good team. While being in crisis they still managed to beat Willem 5-1 on agg., if they can recover during this season they could reach the final stages of the cup. Moreover, this year's "3rd placed teams" in the CL don't seem impressive, the draw being pretty well balanced.

Willem II are 13th in the dutch league. Any team from the ligue 1 would have beaten them.

Certainly not, and they didn't just beaten them, they qualified very easily 2-0 and 1-3, unlike Marseille for example (l'OM had to go to the penalty shout-out against Germinal Antwerp after two 0-0). To qualify like they did whilst they were in the cr*p is a sign of a quality team (again unlike Marseille :p) that could do well in the competition.

I posted that whole thing and made no prediction, other than the 32 I thought would be there. So...PSV. Or Hamburg if PSV stay up in the UCL playoff.
