In WC 1998 South America had 4 out of 5 teams through and Asia 0 out of 4. Any difference anyone?
In WC 2002 Japan and Korea overperformed as hosts and I don't want to mention the suspicious calls that went their way. Paraguay reached as far as Japan but they weren't playing at home. In my view Paraguay is better than both Japan and Korea and if they would play a WC at home they would probably reach the semifinals. The other southamerican team that went to the 2nd round was Brazil and they won. The two asian teams that advanced were both hosts and S.Korea had several calls going their way.
Now take a look at the eliminated asian teams and the eliminated southamerican teams in this WC and let's make a comparison.
Argentina defeated Nigeria 1-0 lost against England 0-1 and drew with Sweden 1-1.
Uruguay lost to Denmark 2-1 drew with France 0-0 and drew with Senegal 3-3.
Ecuador lost to Italy 0-2, lost to Mexico 1-2 defeated Croatia 1-0
Those were the eliminated southamerican teams. Uruguay and Argentina were both very close to make it to the second round. None of the teams lost all their matches or lost by a wide margin. They all gathered points and gave their opponents a run for the money so to speak. Now let's take a look at the eliminated asian teams.
Saudi Arabia lost to Germany 0-8 lost to Cameroon 0-1 and lost to Ireland 0-3.
China lost to Costa Rica 0-2 lost to Brazil 0-4 and lost to Turkey 0-3.
Does Asia need more spots? Really? Do they deserve more spots than South America?
Come on...
the only two asian teams that did well were both hosts and Korea got several calls in their way. The other 2 teams made CRAP!!!
Asia SHOULD NOT have more spots than South America end of discussion!!!

Wow beating Fiji and AMerican Samoa man and not losing a game you really deserve to be in the World Cup.
I'm sure the Swedes would love it if all they had to do was play the Faroe Islands and Andorra in qualfiying, and have their WC hopes rested on a home and away against a more top tier club (say, an Ireland). I don't blame the Aussies for being upset. If FIFA is going to continue this Oceiana conference crap, they deserve an automatic spot. Of course, they should merge the conference with another one, but that would be too much trouble, I guess.

I agree with you that some European sides can get some easy qualifying groups but please don't compare it with the Oceanian group.

You're not getting my point. All the Aussies get are extremely easy sides and a halfway decent side like New Zealand, and a mediocre side like Fiji. Then they have to go play a battle tested side in 2 games to get to the WC.
European teams don't get easy sides (well, they get some, but they get great and decent and ok sides as well), so their national teams actually are seasoned when they play their schedule, where the Aussies are not, due to the lack of halfway competitive sides. How would the Swedes fare if they played nothing but the Faroe Islands of the world, then played a home and away with a team like Uruguay, who had to play teams like Brasil, Argentina, Paraguay, etc. before they played the Aussies? Ordinarily, I'd say the Swedes would fare well in a home and away vs. a team like Uruguay, but not if they played nothing but creampuffs before they played them.
