Depends on what you mean by "best". Results-wise it's probably Chelsea, who have a commanding lead and are already being crowned EPL champions by some hacks.

but if you factor in the spectacle, then right now it's probably Lyon. Top of the table, a thorough manhandling of Real in the CL, and showing no signs of letting up.

As much as I hate to admit it, it is Juventus the best team in Europe right now. They reconfirmed it by beating AC Milan 2-0 yesterday. I will consider Real Madrid #1 after they beat Lyon and Barcelona in October-November.

real madrid seems to be getting their act together and have been playing galactico football recently. if they keep this up i would not bet against them against lyon & barca.

Real havent had bad form this season except the game against Lyon, the Liga matches were determined by messed up refs.. Real will clearly dominate football this season, Barca will be another simple opponent for Madrid since they almost lost to Valencia and Zaragoza if not last minute goals from early excitement of the opposing team

Obviously Juventus. It's the only team in Europe to have a 100% in every major competition.

Serie A games: 6 wins 0 draws 0 losses, ahead by 5 points over the 2nd

CL games: 2 wins 0 draws 0 losses

That was Inter Milan… not quite AC Milan.

Juventus does look like the strongest so far. They're my pick for best so far. Let's see how well they can beat Bayern in a fortnight.

I like how someone mentioned Lyon, even though the French league is not regarded very highly next to the likes of Spain, England and Italy. Juninho continues to be a major influence for them and Fred is the goal poacher they needed. Perhaps with Houllier this season they'll get past the quarterfinals in the CL.

Chelsea is doing very well, but their big opponents Man U, Arsenal, Liverpool in EPL are clearly not up to the job and we've seen them struggling in the CL.

Real Madrid is just getting into gear, so definitely not the best so far. Barcelona looks like going for a Champions League campaign this season. They'll try to win the CL as a priority and finish amongst the first four in La Liga.

This is only the start of the season. It always changes in 6 months...

Bayern München, because they suffered by many injuries for their key players (Makaay, Ballack, Kahn), but managed to be first in league
and won all their matches in CL.
Juve and Chelsea also impressed.

Those hunchback bastards from Turin, clearly.

They have not lost a game and are scarcely conceding
goals along the way. The fact that they beat Inter with
such a straight-forward 2-0 performance is remarkable.

Chelsea second, but Chelsea seem to be benefiting from
the current woes of Man U and Arsenal.

What does that have to do with the question of how good Chelsea is?

Its Chelsea and Juve. However, bear in mind that Juve is a lot older than Chelsea. We'll see how that affects them toward the end of the year. And how long's Zlatan out for thanks to Materazzi's customary hack job?

Why Chelsea first? Juve are doing better, and--as I say--
in a tougher domestic campaign.

In no particular order
Juve, Chelsea, Hamburg, Bayern

How is Juve's domestic campaign any tougher? Inter are a basket case, Roma are......oh, wait, you're a Roma fan.........Milan are shaky as they just realized their defense is older than Bob Dole. Juve beat Inter 2-0 at home. We beat Liverpool 4-1 at Anfield.
And the placement of Juve and Chelsea was random. I'd call them equal co-favorites for the CL title.

Two German teams in the top four?
Say, how're Hamburg doing in their CL group?
