Which songs do you consider as "written for the pub"? You know, those songs that when they're played in a bar, everyone sings along to...

Here's some examples:

Echo & The Bunnymen - The yo-yo man

It sounds a bit like a mysterious song played in one of those dark fishermen's pubs near a port. The chorus "I am the yo yo man, always up and down" is ideal to sing along to while lifting up the pints of beer!

Echo & The Bunnymen - The Cutter

The chorus contains a Irish-esque bagpipes chord, ideal to do a sort of Riverdance-like thing in your local Irish Pub.

Blur - Song 2

Everyone raises the full glasses during the "woo-hoo"

The Doors - Alabama Song (Whiskey Bar)

One of those songs that was born to be played in a pub. Even the title refers to alcohol. Ideal melody to sing along with all people sitting at the bar.

Matthias Reim - Verdammt, ich lieb' dich

This song was probably written in a bar. You can just picture Matthias sitting in one of those German Imbiszes, in his right hand a pen to write down his lyrics, in his left hand a 1-liter glass filled with German beer. The first part of the song is even telling how he meets someone at a bar... The chorus is ideal for sing-alongs at the Bierfesten

The Levellers - Just The One

A sort of Irish Pub mood song, and it's about alcoholism. Fill the pints and let the good times flow !

Dubliners - Dirty ol' town // The Wild Rover

If you ever visit Dublin, go to a local folk bar, and watch the people go mad when these songs are played. Typical Irish dance, combined with typically Irish drunkenness.

?? - Country Roads (West Virginia)

Not sure who sings it, but the song is excellent for the pub. First you sing along to the chorus, then to recover with a pint of alcoholic goodness ;)

We don't sing at our "pubs," we just drink. You're Irish, you should understand that. :)

O.A.R. seems to be pretty popular in bars these days and is pretty good stuff.

All the ex-pat Brits at The Globe in Chicago love singing "Avenue and Alleyways" by Tony Christie. I'm not sure why.
