I have been going through my catalogue of cds, I gotta say, after revisiting the Wu Tang Forever cd, these guys are still the best MCs in the world. I think these are probably the best seven or eight rappers in the world. Too bad they haven't had anything come out in a while. We need 36 more styles of danger.

The first Wu CD still gets heavy rotation on my system - the sound is just timeless.

But their albums - The W and Iron Flag - of the last couple of years have been pretty mediocre. Plus, with the exception of the first album, the solo albums have been far superior to anything they've put out together.
They've essentially become a group where the sum of the individual parts are greater than the whole.

Speaking of which, I need to check out the new Gza album.

Yeah, the wu has been lackluster on the last two albums. The Gza album got good reviews though.

I haven't heard the new GZA album, but that song "Animal Planet" is definitely nice (kinda uses the same gimmick as on "Labels").

While the whole Wu is quality, I wouldn't put any of them in my top 10 though. With the possible exception of GZA, there seems to be lack of any type of diverse themes. And they've never been able to put together a tight live show (when they can be bothered to show up on time).

I think on the strength of their early work I'd still keep them at number one.

Rakim

"ya take 7 mc's put 'em in a line
ya take 7 more suckas who think they can rhyme
but it'll take 7 more before I go for mine
now that 21 mc's ate up at the same time."

Whaaaa...what? Best MC's of the recent 10 years...all time?

I've seen them all. Believe you me. I was privileged enough to have seen and heard everyone from Grandmaster Caz (Coldcrush Bros.), through the cats today. Styles change over time, but lyrical inventiveness, timeliness, impact, flow, wisdom is eternal.

The WU MCS are tight, but the best? As an ensemble will they have influenced the music more than The Coldcrush or Furious 5? I don't think so. They will have had a greater influence on marketing and merchandising of hip-hop culture for sure.

Should any of the WU MCS be compared to Rakim or KRS? Don't think so. Just my opinion.

Cold Crush - those guys knew how to rock the house.

A classic. Get the "Wild Style" CD...has great tunes from a lot of the pioneers in the genre including Busy Bee and Double Trouble (who where part of the Funky 4 "Its the Joint" fame).

If you deejay, call Vinylmania in the village and ask for two vinyl copies of the instrumental to the sound track.

Download "Fresh, Wild, Fly and Bold" by ColdCrush on KazaA.

I could go on....

Like your list, but I am on the fence about Snoop. He came out like a house on fire, but has gotten lazy in his syle.

You and I could make rhymes if we made everything end in "izzle" - know what I mean, my nizzle.

Where did he go wrong? He's the Ken Griffey of hip-hop.....hall of fame potential, hall of fame start, but on the road to missing the hall if he doesn't get his game together.

I thought his first album was great and when he was collaborating with Dre in the early 90s I thought he would be great forever. It seems that I was wrong. I haven't liked anything he's done since then.

and then - Rakim *again*

A few of my favorites, past, present and future...

Chuck D
GZA
Rakim
KRS-One
Q-Tip
Black Thought
Kool Keith
Gift of Gab
Mr. Lif

I'd say Snoop as one of the best flows ever, but as much as I love him, his rhymes aren't the most thought provoking for my tastes. That being said, his new one is the best since Doggystyle. GZA's new one is also pretty strong...though for some reason, I feel like I have the edited version even though there was a label on the cover. "Fame" would be the third installment in the GZA Wordplay Time-Life Feature ("Labels" and "Publicity" being the first two.) Animal Planet is pretty similar though.

Within the Wu, Ghostface and Inspectah Deck are my other two favorites, but I only threw GZA up on the list.
