I have not seen them the entire season. How did they manage such a good run? Who are their key players? And their game plan?

Me neither, but I've heard that Riki is playing great at forward. Against Valencia he ahd to play LW and did well, too. He is a Real Mdrid canterano, but I don't know if he's on loan or what.
Schuster's teams seem to always paly well.

He almost saved Levante's sorry arse last year until the club president's head got too big. He'll be coaching a big club soon.

I meant to say start well, but what you said is true.

Getafe success down to pure hard work
MADRID, Oct 5 (Reuters) - Getafe coach Bernd Schuster puts his side's surprise leadership of the Primera Liga down to a straightforward combination of hard work and common sense.
The modest Madrid-based side, who are in only their second season in the top flight, lead the standings by a point from Celta Vigo after six games and are one of just two teams who have yet to lose a match.
'It's not a miracle, it's simply a case of us putting in the necessary work,' the former German international told Barcelona-based daily Sport on Wednesday.
'Of course it's a surprise because we never expected to be leading the league, but with four wins and two draws, in other words 14 points from a possible 18, we deserve to be at the top.'
'Tactically there are no secrets. We don't play a special system, it is just a question of playing each player in the right place.'
The 45-year-old is under no illusions as to his prime objective for the season.
'We aren't going to win the league, our aim is to stay up and the sooner we achieve that the better,' he said. 'If we do that then we can start going for other things, but now isn't the time to think about that.'

Getafe management has offered Schuster a one year contract extension.
Apparently he is only hanging around until a better offer comes -

Getafe are set to extend Bernd Schuster’s contract after the club’s impressive start to the season, but he wants a clause get-out clause inserted.
The German coach took over at the Coliseum in the summer after singing a one-year deal and has made an immediate impression as the Madrilenian club have started with four wins and two draws to top the table.
Schuster is already being touted as a successor to Wanderley Luxemburgo at Real Madrid and he has claimed that he would jump at the chance to take the reins at one of Spain’s bigger clubs.

As a player, Schuster had a history of clashing with the management. I think he wont be a good mix with Perez at Real Madrid. Schuster is better off with a smaller club.

Yes true. I was just surprised how much he actually made it clear. You would think he might say "oh no, I'm completely pledged to Getafe for the time being, and I am not entertaining offers at this time"

As it has been noted in this thread, he's not the kind of guy that doesn't speak his mind out loud.

From 20minutos.es:
The leader of the First Division will travel to Sevilla this weekend to face a Real Betis side that has not found itself in the best of moments. Serra Ferrer's outfit have only won one match, and they are in 17th place, just one point above "the drop zone." Getafe has the posibility to continue dreaming and move further from the rest of the pack.
