No Gallas.

Mexes?!?

Squillaci at left back?

No Makelele.

Rothen is good, but no that good to merit a starting place. He'll probably be injured.

Trez will start over Cisse.

I'd shudder if that was Les bleus starting line-up in Germany (if they get there of course ;))

unlikely. the "best american soccer network ever! (FSC)" is trying to hype up the oh so thrilling confrontation between Russia and Luxembourg.

Some people do care about that game you know!

Hopefully they may get a Loko hat-trick like they did against Estonia in Krasnodar. Bilya scoring all three and setting up the other four will suit me.

:D

Vperyed!

lol i know, but it doesn't suit my interests! ;)

actually, i don't mind them showing the game, its just that the network is making it out to be the match of the century

lol. Really?

It would be amazing, no, it would unfathomable if Luxembourg score a goal...

If Russia don't score 4 I will be disappointed.

unfortunately, the pub i go to all the time (Nevada Smiths, the best soccer pub i'd say maybe in the world) is showing every big game EXCEPT the french ones both on wed/sat... they are showing both of irelands games... here, i'll send you the link of the pub website with the list of games... enjoy:

ill be checking out LC2 i guess... i'm hoping they play the game :(

I know! I cant believe it. The only explanation is that its an Irish bar and they are being sore losers after the last round of qualifiers.

Sagnol is suspended, Givet is hurt and Thuram is doubtful with injury. :(

That's why we'll likely concede at least one... :( I just hope the Swiss defense and the goal posts won't be too lucky.

No Gallas? He must start over Boumsong in central defense, or if not there, at left-back.

True. Most importantly, France should play with only one defensive midfielder, and a left back who can cross, and go past players.

The second will be an option when Abidal's back. Until then, there's really no option but to play Gallas on the left.

Here's what I think is the ideal formation for Les Bleus, come World Cup time.

----------Coupet
Sagnol---Thuram--Gallas---Abidal
------------Makalele
-----Vieira-----------Zidane
---Wiltord------------------Henry
--------------Trezeguet

This gives Vieira the freedom to play like he did for Arsenal: Defensive-minded, while winning balls, distributing, and going forward when the opportunity presents itself. Makalele always stays back, hardly ever crossing the halfway line, and Zidane can attack pretty much all the time, but must come back to receive the ball in his own half from time to time. Having Henry drift out wide means Abidal can stay home most of the time, neutralizing the absence of a real left-sided midfielder. For this to work though, Zidane must be willing to check back and receive the ball, and Vieira must be very well disciplined. The fullbacks really don't need to attack at all.

antony reveillère has an enormous volume de jeu as they say in french. i only hope he doesn't play possum like he did his last time in blue. if he plays the way he does for OL, you're all in for a treat (except the switzerland fans ;) )

here's an excellent article in today's équipe that i unfortunately don't have the time to translate:

I like your idea, but here is how a healthy France squad will line up in Germany.

-----------Coupet/Barthez (God I hope it's Coupet)

Sagnol----Thuram----Gallas------Abidal

-------Vieira---Makalele---Malouda/Dhorasoo

----------------Zidane

-----------Henry----Trezeguet

I think Rothen is a great talent and is doing very well at Paris Saint-Germain. William Gallas might just be better than Squillaci but not by very much. Claude Makelele will not play a full 90 for France again I dont think, so someone else should replace him maybe even Ludovic Guily if he can play in the centre even though his preferred place is out on the right. As for the front two defenitely Henry but I think Cisse and Trezeguet are about equals and there is not much between them.

I really don't know what your talking about.... But just to address one point, Maka played 90 minutes against Ireland and was the best player on the field by far. What on earth makes you think he won't play the full 90 again?????
