The Swiss performance was really worth some plaudits, but yeah, they should really get back to Earth cos they troubled a French team which wasn't hot at all...

France should play with one defensive midfielder. Not Makalele and Viera.

As for France, I just hope they score a few goals on wednesday. 4-0 seems pretty much impossible at this point.umm, actually it will take 5-0 if the swiss win at lansdowne... :o

Its all Wiltords fault. If he passed to Zizou in the shot he shot wide then there might have been a differnce. And Malouda shouldent even be on the national team. And why wasnt Giuly playing, or even on the bench?? And Zizou wasnt invisible but contributed nothing in my opinion other than that shot he had iin the final minutes.all wiltord's fault me eye! that shot was a gem. not even pele hit them ALL in!

the absence of henry and trezeguet made no difference at all, as even they can't score goals w/o the ball! i was surprised to see nino on point too, but he did as well as anyone could have, he didn't get much service. and the best he got came from malouda, so get some glasses, dude!

the biggest disapointments were "the big dogs": zidane was ordinary, which he's not supposed to be. thuram weak, viera horrible. makalelé had a disastrous first 30 minutes.

cissé scored a goal on tenaciousness and luck, give him credit for forcing the swiss error in front of the cage. but otherwise, he was poor, too.

imho, the best in blue were coupet and reveillère, but the best of a weak lot; we saw two teams playing a latin game, but one had crisp passes, deft movement and pouncing acceleration, the other was soft and hesitant.

whar scares me is that if the swiss play that way in dublin they have every chance of winning.

Of all persons, he must be the less partial of course... I think did not issue a red card because it would have been too harsh, and Makelele was hardly the last defender, that's all. It's a non-issue IMO.

I am sorry but the rule by itself is not clear at all. In my non-bias opinion, a takle from behind like that is a red card. But lets put it this way, at the end it was a yellow and too bad for Switzerland.

i was holding my breath, it could have gone either way. if it had been at 62' instead of 12', i would have bet the house on red.

What made it a dark-yellow and not a red in my opinion was the fact that he got the ball and wasn't the last defender. Very strictly seen it could have been a red (tackle from behind), but a ref needs to use discretion depending on the situation. With that said, I sure hope the ref in Dublin will show the same discretion when one of our players does something stupid...
Zidane "shut down" by Vogel (he's just been average like he's been average since more than a year)
[EDIT] After preparing a whole paragraph on Vogel I just realized that you meant Zidane by "average" :D

Well here is what the Swiss trainer thinks and I agree with him :p

«La Suisse reste une petite équipe aux yeux des arbitres. Il faut s'y faire, les grandes nations sont avantagées, comme protégées. Moi, j'avais vu rouge contre Makelele. Mais il est plus dur d'expulser une star comme Makelele qu'un p'tit Suisse anonyme.»

Basically: "Switzerland is considered as a small team by the referees. We have to get use to this, the bigger team always have that advantage. As for myself, I saw a red card against Makelele. But it's harder to give a red card to Makelele than to a Swiss player that they don't know about"

And by the way, the referee Urs Meier from Switzerland said he would have gave a red card to Makelele. And don't tell thats bias :D

let it go man. he got more of the ball than anything else. just watch the replay. even your countrymen dont see it that way.

btw, anyone have urs meier's address? ;)

Zidane's not playing at his best level since a long time, even though he can pull out a great match from time to time, he's average compared to what he's been before.

excellent commentary as always WX. i'd rep you but:

1) must spread it around first ;)

2) you owe it to us, and above all to yourself, to try to post in english. if you can understand our english posts you should be able to write your own! no one's going to laugh at you for mistakes, if they do:

1) they're only showing their own ignorance

2) they have to deal with me.

Yeah, but we would miss weapon's inimitable style, so it remains a french learning incentive for the others. That or weapon can provide a translation of his posts for the non French readers (they would miss his style but still).

Here's the web translation of weaponx's post. Too funny....

Good disappointed by this game one inclines oneself on an old free kick of deviated merde

Frei was can one understands why it always is to Reindeers, it placed a strike to 10 m of the cage that could have injured gravement a photographer. One marks a goal after a pitiful error of Switzerland, thank-you Djibril We also one marks a goal of merde.

The Swiss environment was really good, cabanas and co this is not bad of the all. Patrick Vieira to the collects well far of his level with the Juve, diminished him also by an injury at the beginning of training. Zizou did this that it has been able and failed to mark, it was cooked to the normal end when one plays 30 minutes since Ireland ..... Thuram was good but not to the top of his form, him also to had a preparation of merde.

Switzerland catch fire so better for them, they have can forgotten etre than it lacked us Trezeguet, Henry, Zebina, Abidal, Sagnol, Rothen.... brief they did not play a France Equipe to the big suit.

Sharply Wednesday that one know or one goes and or one goes not.

As an (almost) proud member of the teachers and reseachers community, I feel compelled to clearly express the fact that weaponx french, however pictorial and colourful it might be, does not represent in any case the standard practice of our language.

After all, we have some impressionable kids lurking around here, so it's better to warn.

PS: "he is always to Reindeers" is something we should show to Nanbawan. God bless automatic translations !
