Name artists who had one big hit that you heard almost every day, but then never had another hit again. I'll start off:

Lou Bega- Mambo #5

Fountains of Wayne- Stacy's Mom

Turning Japanese - The Vapours

She Sells Sanctuary - The Clut

Teenage Kicks - The Undertones. They had alot of other good songs but none made the commercial impact of this.

Indeep - Last night a DJ saved my life
Cornershop - Brimful of Asha
The Knack - My Sharona (their one-hit status might be a good thing, come to think of it)
Spin Doctors - Two Princes
The Strokes - Someday/Last night/Is this it (Or however the song is called they repeat 11 times on their debut album)

I'd have to disagree with FOW just because Radiation Vibe got decent play and I heard Sink to the Bottom often enough when the first album came out. I know Denise was a single, but obviously not a hit. It is hard to say a band is a one hit wonder when they will still be putting out albums.

Tainted Love by Soft Cell is usually a classic ohw. For US audiences it mainly is, it was there only major hit in that region iirc.

Its amazing the amount of cover versions of it though.

Take On Me by A-ha.

Can we say, Men without Hats - Safety Dance?

Does anyone remember Las Ketchup?

'Asereje' used to grind into my skull. Non-********ing stop through Europe that was played.

Well anyway, the younger one with the dark hair was quite hot.

The Rembrandts - I'll Be There For You.

That tune off Friends.

Never heard from since.

Another good one, that I've just found out, and incredibly its not crap;

Spirit In The Sky by Doctor and the Medics....

Also;

It's Raining Men by the Weather Girls...

Another great tune (if you happen to be gay of course.)

You know, we do the one-hit wonder thread at least twice a year, and I'm always the one to say something like .....

"The Cult? She Sells Sanctuary? They had six or seven albums, and that wasn't even their biggest hit. Fire Woman was."

or

"A Flock of Seagulls? Which song? I Ran? Wishing? Telecommunication?"

or

"Men Without Hats? What about Pop Goes the World, which was a top 40 hit IIRC?"

or

"A-ha had a lot of hits in Europe."

Gosh, I love being the party pooper in these threads.

Hey, some people in the US think Frankie Goes to Hollywood are something of a one hit wonder.

:eek:

It's amazing that a song like "Two Tribes" was banned by the BBC for its stance on the Cold War. When you consider the outright anti-Iraq war songs out there, which make the 1980's rant about about global politics seem mild in comparison.

yeah you do....sorry, but A-ha is a one hit wonder. Hasslehoff had a lot of hits in Europe :rolleyes: clearly, their judgement is misguided.
