Anyone here planning to watch this remake (http://abc.go.com/primetime/nightstalker/) of the 1970's TV-show Kolchak: The Night Stalker (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0071003/)?

It premieres tonight on ABC.

Damn, I thought we finally had a good film on Richard Ramirez, and it's something else in the end... Your topic title is misguiding ;)

Watched and wasn't very impressed with what could be a great show. There were some good nods to the original 70s version (the hat hanging in Kolchak's office at home), but overall a bit week for a premiere episode.

I'll give it a couple more tries.

It seemed promising enough to me that I'll also give it a couple more tries.

As with many new shows, perhaps now that they got that "introductory first episode" out of the way, they'll just jump straight into the mystery in the next episode.

It was strangely interesting that while the little girl was eventually found, that the mystery of exactly what that thing was that kidnapped her and why it did it wasn't solved. I wonder if that'll be the case for every episode, or if some of the mysteries will be solved by episode's end while others won't be?

What about the ultimate nod...Darren McGavin, CGI'ed or something, in the news room. Did you catch it?

I would prefer a single-episode format, but TV is so into a continuing storyline going throughout a season nowadays it's unlikely they'll have all self-contained episodes. It may be like The X-Files in that respect. Some continuing and some not.

It's got none of the original's flavor, which would probably be impossible to duplicate, but I'll hang in there for a couple of months to see how it's going.

Already I don't care for the presence of an FBI agent who hates Kolchak and is chasing him down. That kind of character is so tired and I don't want him showing up all the time with his one-note bullcrap. He'll be a drag on the series unless he becomes some sort of ally down the line.

No, but me and the wife were watching the original nightstalker the one about the vampire. The blonde guy vampire was one of the kidnappers in the 7 ups movie. In the middle of it my wifes water broke and took her to the hosiptal and had our first son 31 years ago.

Darren McGavin was all over the place even in plays and movies and TV. The really interesting part he loaned his brother money here in the US to prospect for oil. His bother hit it big time and both he and Darren became really rich guys. McGavin sure didn't have to act any more but he did.

Remember him from that jerry lewis movie where McGaven tried to turn him into a cop.

You aren't kidding about Darren McGavin doing everything. He even played the king in a Lincoln Center revival of The King and I in the mid-60s. RCA made a cast recording of it! Unfortunately, it has yet to see the light of day on CD.

Yeah, I did a double take when I saw him.

Agreed, his character was a bit ridiculous.

I actually enjoyed it. I liked the set up, and the little nods to McGavin, and will definitely check it out again.

Every time I see Jay though I can't help but think of Not Another Teen Movie.

I can't remember his name I remember Simon oakland I think he was a newspaper owner he was good.

Also played the city detective in th Movie West side story who did not like the PR's.

But greatest performance was in the last 10 minutes of the original Physco playing the shrink who just examined Norman Bates. His dialog in the movie made Norman even more scarey. "Norman became his mother."

Yesterday's episode was pretty good. As with My Name Is Earl (http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showpost.php?p=6335506&postcount=40) over on NBC, I'm glad that I'm watching the widescreen/letterbox version of this series on ABC-HD on my Comcast HD-DVR (even without an HDTV). :D

The fact that Kolchak now has partners (reporters and such) certainly changes the dynamics of the new show a bit compared to the original series, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. It's just somewhat different from the original, sort of like how different the new Battlestar Galactica is from its predecessor.

In any case, next week's episode looks pretty interesting.

The first episode needed to introduce the characters but I liked last night's episode a lot more.

And it looks like the FBI guy was only an FBI guy in the pilot because last night he was a police detective who had never met Kolchak before.

Another interesting episode this week, this time with a rather interesting spin on the "haunted house" theme.

Me too. :)

Tonight's episode was pretty wild, with a killer's handiwork burning targeted victims internally long after his demise.

Another good episode last night with lots of twists and turns.

Though there was one part about the ending that I'm a bit unclear about: When Kolchak told the arrested detective that he knew he didn't slit the possessed kid's throat, was he implying that the detective's son killed the possessed kid, or that the possessed kid killed himself?
