With these comments you are making an ass out of yourself Sportboy..... Money and Wealth? What the hell does that have to do with Soccer, or the quality of a club on the pitch? I imagine that if you had it your way, a team like Porto wouldn't even be allowed to compete in the C1, let alone and god forbid win it. And if that is your guidline, then you better wake up, because Lyon is the 8th "richest" club in football according to Delloitte and Touche.
As for not being able to recruit anyone, or retain any strikers, they have brought in Fred and Carew worth a combined 22 million Euros..... so I really don't know what the hell your talking about. They have spent upwards of 40 million Euros this summer. How much did Inter spend? Oh yeah, they got Figo on a free. I'm sorry....

Fred and Carew combined cant equal what Henry is. Bayren has Makaay and he is better than anything Lyon has at that position. You have to factor in wealth when you are looking at who are the biggest clubs. You cant just look at on the pitch performance. Thats only half of it. It doesnt matter what Inter spent. They are still a bigger club than Lyon because they have had success for a longer period of time than Lyon has and they have more wealth and they play in a richer league. Lyon could have signed Figo but he didnt even consider them. If they truely were the bigger club then why wouldnt he go there instead ? Lyon cant attract and sign a player like Adriano and Inter can. How does that make Inter bigger then ? I dont see it.

Do you think Lyon was activly recruiting Figo? This is the dumbest debate I've ever seen, and that is truely saying something because I often frequent the MLS boards......
Henry cost Arsenal less than Fred, so too did Adriano. So lets wait 5 years and we can see if Fred is at there level. With your line of thinking, Juve is a ******** club because they couldn't "retain" Henry and had to sell him to Arsenal (thus losing him). Come on.

I'm fuming....
How is Arsenal more ambitous than Lyon? Both teams sold their star devensive midfielders, and Arsenal recruited who this summer (aside from the Hleb character)? Nobody!!!!!! They sold their captain and didn't replace him! Jeez, Lyon sold their dmid and brought in Pedretti, Monsoreau, Carew, Fred, Tiago, and I'm sure I'm forgetting someone else.

No Juve is a bigger club than Lyon because they have had more success domestically and in Europe throughout history and they also have high quality/ high paid international players at every position which Lyon doesnt have. Trezeguet is just one guy who Lyon tried to lure and failed. He's also much better than Carew and Fred combined.

I didnt say Arsenal were more "ambitious" I said they were a larger club. My point was that Lyon doesnt have a player like Henry whos one of the best forwards in the world. I dont care how Arsenal got him or how cheap he was, bottom line is they have him and Lyon doesnt and they dont have someone who can compare with him on that level. Lets not also forget Sol Campbell and Ashely Cole, 2 stallworth defenders on the English national team while Lyon has 2 defenders on the French national team(Reverille and Abidal) who arent as established and are part timers on that team. Arsenal has the edge again there.

Arsenal (with Henry) vs Lyon right now on a neutral field...... I'll take Lyon 6 out of 10 times minimum

I didnt say Lyon couldnt beat Arsenal. I'd probably pick Lyon over Arsenal too if they played tommorow. We're talking about the overall grand scope here. Arsenal can produce more revenue than Lyon can and that is a factor in them being a bigger club. The power and money and lure of the EPL helps them greatly They have a new 60,000 seat stadium coming next year and that will put their long term prospects even further ahead of Lyon's consider's OL's new stadium isnt coming anytime soon. Here are the clubs right now I think are bigger than Lyon:
Real Madrid
Barcelona
Chelsea
Liverpool
Manchester United
Arsenal
Juventus
Milan
Inter
Bayren Munich
I factor in on the pitch performance the past 5 years and money/wealth/budget. Heck I'd put Lyon ahead of Valencia, Roma, and Lazio right now when 5 years ago you couldnt.

Figo only?
You must now know what you are talking about! Inter signed 7 players in total this off season, count them SEVEN! Off the top of my head, Walter Samuel from Real, world class defender. Figo and Solari. Pizarro from Udinese, which was the best signing they did! Pizarro is half the reason Udinese are in the champs league this year. Inter also signed their new Brazilian keeper Julio Cesar who will be a big name by the end of this season.

Carew is a 2nd rate striker, if he was good he would have signed with a bigger club a while back. He was on loan for Roma a few years back and was absolutely horrible. Fred on the other hand is a young up and commer, the big clubs usually let 2nd rate clubs like Porto, Lyon, Parma, etc buy these types of players and once they become top quality they are purchased by the big giants (ie: Milan, Barcelona, Chelsea, Juve, etc). This is reality. Juve are not going to buy Fred for example, even though it would be a good buy they wait and buy him once he is proven. Lyon are a good team, I enjoy watching them play as they have an exciting style but they are definitely below the big giants.
Milan
Chelsea
Juve
Barcelona
Inter
Arsenal
Man United
Real Madrid
Bayern Munich --> questionable

2nd rate? 2nd rate?
Second rate is filling 35% of your stadium on an annual basis. Second rate is averaging 26,000 people per home match..... How bout you troll elsewhere, go back to the Juve boards and pat yourself on the back there. And once your attendance exceeds Lyon's (in a much bigger stadium mind you) then I will be happy to talk to you about who is second rate and who isn't.
So until your stadium stops looking like.... this.... Au'revoir.

HAHA...Funny, at Juve we care about winning silverware and not filling out stadium with under-priced tickets. Talk to me in 2007 when Juve get their new stadium, as that is half the problem! The current stadium is horrible and fans have began boycotting the games years ago until they finally agreed on getting a new stadium.

Great fans......
You don't think Lyon fans want a new stadium?
I really hope Lyon faces Juve in the next round.
And your decripit stadium was built so long ago..... 1990. Nice work. The problem with Juve is that they have more fans in the US/Canada than in Turin.
Stick a neutral in either stadium on any weekend and let them decide which club is second rate.
What I said about passing Lyon's attendance numbers was unfare, because that is clearly unrealisitic. Come back when you pass Messina's average attendance. Ha!

Since when did stadium capacity ever come into the reckoning of who is the best and biggest team in Europe?
Dortmund get twice as mnay fans as Lyon do, so they are better then? Have the more passionate fans...? lol. Don't make me laugh.
Clearly you have never been to the Delli Alpi, sl7vk. Ironically the stadium is probably closer to France than to Turin.
As for Lyon v Juve in two sides of the whole equation, then its;
Juve > Lyon
Juve are looking way over the horizon at Lyon.

Your living 10 years ago Ganu. I'll wager you that Lyon advance further in the C1 this year than Juve......
I never said a thing about stadium capacities. I said if you can't fill half of your ground, you're not a great European club. Second tier clubs can't fill half of their ground. The point went way over your head.

2005 - Juve = 26,429 - Lyon = 37,510
2004 - Juve = 34,997 - Lyon = 35,120
2003 - Juve = 39,771 - Lyon = 36,718
2002 - Juve = 40,687 - Lyon = 34,005
2001 - Juve = 38,630 - Lyon = 34,084
2000 - Juve = 41,025 - Lyon = 34,467
Tee-hee. What short memories football fans have. Only since 2004 (when fans got sick and tired of the situation) did they stop going. When the support was at its fullest, it surpassed Lyon's.
Now, consider if the Delli Allpi was built on the old Comunale ground, then that attendance would be even higher than Lyon's. Considerably higher.
Oh, and you may want to check out Monaco's domestic and European record and average home attendance too.
Read into what you want, but Juve piss all over Lyon.

Juve
Milan > Lyon
Inter
If French teams didnt have to pay higher employment taxes on players and if their was a European DCNG then things might be different.

So I take it you won't be taking my bet then........... Not surprised really.
The last two years Lyon has outdrawn Juve with a stadium half the size..... Like I said, you're living in the past. I imagine that in your world Red Star Belgrade is still a European Giant.
The last two years, Lyon has a better European record than Juve.... That is just simply fact.
