LOTR: Two Towers [R]

So, who's going to see this? I have tickets for the Uptown, in DC, tomorrow night at 10:30.

I have a feeling that this is going to be better than Fellowship.

I was originally scheduled to see it at 8 PM on Wednesday night, but my girlfriend got called out of town on a business trip. So now we're on for Thursday night.

Anyone need two tickets for the Wednesday night 8 PM show at the Century Park 12 in Redwood City CA? It's sold out...

I'm pondering the first matinee tomorrow (11:00 a.m.), but I'll have to go by myself since I have no other kindred geeks to go with me.

BTW, I just saw the extended version of The Fellowship this past weekend. I'm glad that Jackson cut out what he did in the original version because the extended version is just too damn long.

Seriously, though, I beg to differ.

Some of the scenes in the theater version make little or no sense without scenes that were cut. Like when Galadriel says she can now go to the West after passing her test. Without the scene where the hobbits see the elves going to the West, Galadriel's comment makes no sense to anyone who hasn't read the books.

I am glad they cut out Tom Bombadil.

I saw it last night and all I can say is TWO THUMBS UP!!

This movie is great, as expected.

I'll have to go see it in the theatres this weekend though, seeing it on the big screen is a lot better than on a 36" tv.

I do agree that the extended scenes in Lothlorien added greatly to the picture, but the extra scenes in Hobbiton and elsewhere really did nothing to advance the film, IMHO. Perhaps my opinion is somewhat clouded due to the fact that I had the stomach flu this weekend and was forced to stay on the couch for two days.

Tom Bombadil = the Jar Jar Binks of the LOTR.

Fair enough, especially about the Hobbiton scenes. It will be intersting to see what got cut from Two Towers.

Bleh, I don't get to see it until Sunday. Damn work and the holidays.

And I just saw the extended version last night, too. Adding Aragorn's bit about Andurin was great, and the extended talk between Boromir and Aragorn about Andurin added more depth. So did a lot of the scenes, I thought, especially the gifts.

The Two Towers will be even better, but Return of the King will be the best imo. I can't wait to see TTT Sunday.

Disagree on the Hobbiton scenes, totally. In particular, the scene in the bar gives much needed context of Frodo hanging out with Pippin and Merry. In the original, one gets the sense he might barely know them when he bumps into them in the field.

Anyway, did everyone check out the Jack Black ring piercing scene hidden on the first disk. Pretty funny.

Oh, and I've got two ticks for tomorrow night, 7:30. I was shocked when they actually took the voucher that came with Fellowship's extended version. That basically knocks $8.75 off the $23.99 I paid for it! I was sure they were going to pull some, "Oh, that's only good on Tuesday mornings in February" BS.

I was going to go tomorrow night, but my brother is coming back from Chicago for Christmas on Saturday, and he's a big Tolkien fan as well, so we are going Saturday evening.

I've got to go redeem my voucher as well. My wife got me the extended version with the bookends and National Geographic DVD for Christmas (early gift!)... way cool.

I am going to it in exactly 6 hours for the 12:01 showing tonight, and I'm psyched up for it. I was going to go up to my hometown and see it there, but the big theatre in sioux falls had already pre-sold out all the nightly shows of the first week 2 weeks ago.

I heard they invented a whole new Uruk Hai character to sharpen the action in Rohan--gives Aragorn somebody in particular to hack on.
