Monica and Gabriela Irimia, who are 20 year old identical twin sisters from Transylvania (I kid you not), have their debut single with perhaps the greatest title of all time, Cheeky Song (Touch My Bum) in the upper regions of the pop charts.

Apparently they are rejects from one of the "pop idol" shows, and now are having the last laugh.

Unbelievable.

I saw them on "Top of the Pops" on BBC America the other day and almost pissed myself laughing.

"Cheesy Girls" is more like it. The "music" is hilariously bad but they are worth a chuckle for the five minutes they'll be almost famous.

This type of act always reminds me of what my jazz history professor said in college:

Apparently, they were on Pop Stars (the one Hear'say came from), and Model behaviour, a similar show trying to find catwalk models. But it's nice to see that they have that stereotypical East European dyed hair that looks like straw.

He also taught theory and piano. He also played with Ella Fitzgerald, so he's not too much of a wank.

I took the class as my last course in college. I had an elective left and wanted an easy one.

Regardless of what your opinion of jazz is, the quote is correct. There is some serious shite being cranked out primarily because people think a song is funny. I don't think "The Ketchup Song" will stand up next to anything Coltrane or Miles Davis ever put out. I don't even like jazz that much, I just took the course for an easy grade.

Jazz is OK, even if I'm not a big fan of any jazz made after, say, 1970 unless it sounds like it could have been made before then. Armstrong, Goodman, Ellington, Fitzgerald, Holiday and even Parker, Gillespie and early Davis are listenable in my book.

I can take your favorite music and make all its fans look like a bunch of stereotypical lemminglike wankers. When you say indie rock, do you mean stuff like Oasis ?. I quite like that stuff, although I like Super urry Animals, Divine Comedy and early Radiohead more.
