Who is the best spot kick taker in the world? My pick is Shearer as his penalty misses are rare and far between.

Ruud van Nistelrooy is awesome. He is so good that he took over as Man U's primary penalty taker, replacing David Beckham!!! Now that's saying alot.

cough Roberto Baggio cough
He's a great player, but just can't score on PKs. He's taken about 5 or 6 so far this year, and has missed 2.

I'll second that. Shearer is so great at the spot, though I'll agree with the other person that RVN is pretty damn good as well.

*sigh*
Denis Irwin was Man Utd's penalty taker for ten years up until last season when age forced him into a squad player role, which coincided nicely which the purchase of Van Nistelrooy. Beckham was never their primary penalty taker - if Irwin was on the field, he took it. Now, if Van Nistelrooy's on the field, he takes it.
Seeing as you so kindly brought him up, I'd also like to nominate Denis Irwin retrospectively for this award :)
Beckham is not a deity, and you obviously haven't been a Man Utd fan for very long. I'm not either, by the way, but I like to keep up with events.

Matt Le Tissier at Southampton had a good record - 49 scored from 50 attempts.

Wait a minute... wasn't LeTiss one who missed v. Argentina in WC98? Or maybe I'm confusing him with someone else...

yeah...and your point is? He's still the best spot kick taker in the premiership now...despite missing.
Also, it wasn't Le Tissier who missed in WC 98, but David Batty.

Alessandro Del Piero, Luis Figo, and Andriy Shevchenko are a few of the best outside of the EPL.

LeTissier wasn't at WC98.
You are thinking of David Batty and Paul Ince.

Le Tissier played very few times for England. He was a very talented individual when it came to ball mastery.
