Memo to the FSWR crew in Winnipeg:

While I can excuse the Brits (at TWI, CSI, and ESPN) and the FSC motley crew in LA for butchering the name of Cameroon/Barcelona star Samuel Eto'o, I am shocked that veteran Canadian broadcasters, almost all of whom studied French as part of their high school education, would screw up the name.

(This applies doubly true for the FSWR anchor with the French surname. You know who you are.)

The apostrophe in "Eto'o" is there for a reason: as a syllable separator. The apostrophe is necessary in French, the official language of Cameroon, in order to indicate that the stress is in the 2nd-to-last syllable rather than the usual and customary last syllable.

Hence, "Eto'o" should be pronounced eh-TOH-oh, not EE-toh (Ito is Japanese), and definitely not EE-too.

MEMO TO JOEBLOW WHEREVER YOU RESIDE:

Thanks for the advice...But it is pronounced with both syllables ~ at "full speed" it sounds like Eto...We've consulted with francophones in our own community (and even our francophone producer). But, in future I'll consider slowing it down for you so you can sleep better at night.

ee-TOH.........................................................................oh.

And in the future, if there is a specific problem with me, feel free to refer to me by name ~ I'm not here hiding behind an alias and am more than willing to engage any discussions viewers may want to have.

Thanks ~ I've gotten a few PM's from ppl telling me his name, etc....I guess he has different incarnations on here as he keeps getting banned or something? As much as I appreciate the info, truth is I'm not really that interested.

As my good friend The Rock once said:

"IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT YOUR NAME IS..."

He said a few other things I could pass along but you get my drift....

Cheers!

That's world class Jeremy. I need to give you some more rep, but I'm spent for the day.

Thanks Jeremy. No problem here, just a suggestion. On your recaps of Dutch Eredivisie, make sure you give props to Feyenoord's Jonathan de Guzman, just turned 18. He played the 2nd half of Feyenoord's final game in their UEFA Cup campaign today and should figure in lots of league games. He's from Scarborough, younger brother of Julian and sounds like he's ready for a great pro career by all accounts.

Yeah, Jeremy has enough to worry about already with trying to keep it together when he reads another bad story about Man Utd...I know I couldn't. :(

LMAO - JSTLoius broke out the beatdown stick and whupped some butt.

Keep up the great work Jeremy. Love da show. . .. even though you didnt appreciate my comment in the Pronunciation thread (regarding "inho" sounding like "ingo", and my favorite player being the brazilian Cunnilinho.)

they scoffed at Galileo once, too.

Except when he mispronounces Rennes and can't separate his "Jo-ses" from his "Ho-ses".

Please pass along to Carlos that he needs to brush up on his pronunciation.

The "G" in Gbandi in not pronounced -- it's "Bondy", not "Guhbondy"

I'm just surprised you didn't blame this all on Julie Foudy or the existence of ESPN Deportes.

One thing's for sure: You'll never see Eto'o driving on the NASCAR channel.
