NEW SOLANO INJURY BLOW

By Dylan Younger
Date: 28/9/2005

NEWCASTLE United have been rocked by the news that Nobby Solano could be out of action for WEEKS. The new signing is yet to kick a ball since returning to the club on transfer deadline day - but he was half-expecting to be fit for the trip to Portsmouth on Saturday.

However, that will not happen, after medical staff insisted that a lengthy rest is the only cure for the problem.

Solano suffered a setback during a light training session on Saturday morning and, according to a Journal exclusive, visited a specialist on Monday when he was given the bad news.

The Peruvian now looks likely to be sidelined for another month - a huge blow for manager Graeme Souness, who is already without his first-choice winger on the opposite flank, Albert Luque, until mid-November.

The Tyne-Wear derby at home to Sunderland on October 23 now looks to be the earliest target for Solano's second United debut. No good.

No good.

Fortunately we're not playing anyone overly good between now and then.

And I believe Dyer will go into the center-half at least until Emre comes back.

Fresh injuries blow for Toon

Sep 30 2005

By Alan Oliver, The Evening Chronicle

Newcastle United plans for tomorrow's trip to Fratton Park to take on Portsmouth have been disrupted after Scott Parker and Titus Bramble were hit by injuries in training yesterday.

Both were named in the squad to travel south, but significantly Souness placed Martin Brittain and Michael Chopra on standby in case there was any reaction after today's training session.

Souness is already without Emre and Nobby Solano, who were left behind on the treatment table when the United squad flew out of Newcastle airport for the South coast this afternoon.

Story continues Continue story

Kieron Dyer is expected to be on the plane, but with his recent injury record Souness will not be able to give a sigh of relief until he sees his midfielder running out at Fratton Park tomorrow. We should still win 2-0. I just hope the boys wont be out long.

Owen fitness boost for Sven

Newcastle manager Graeme Souness expects Michael Owen to be fit for England's World Cup double-header.

Owen missed the 0-0 draw at Portsmouth with a dead leg but the striker should be fit in time for the meeting with Austria at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Souness said: "We had to give Michael Owen and Scott Parker fitness tests this morning.

"Unfortunately, Michael did not feel he could manage a game. What kind of training is being done the day before a game that could cause dead leg.

The same kind that allows 5ft8 160lb Michael Chopra to break 6ft3 250lb Titus Bramble.

Bezayzus. I'm reminded of Spurs circa '95 to '04. At least you're not Birmingham eh?

I couldn't live with myself if we had the injury problems or Burberryham

Indeed. I'm not sure I could live with myself just by being a Brummie.

I used to think the brummie accent was ok. I spent 12 hours in a hotel there before the FA cup semi and I was ready to shoot the next one that opened its mouth.

It's such a hole of a city as well. I threw up in my mouth a little just thinking about it.

The Mirror is reporting Dyer's out until Christmas due to yet another hamstring injury. Damn, guess that means no selling him in January.

If we ever signed Joe Cole I doubt I'd sleep for days. I'd be more excited with that signing than Owens.

INJURED MAGPIES DUO JOIN NATIONAL SQUADS

By Dylan Younger
Date: 5/10/2005

NEWCASTLE United have been forced to allow Emre and Craig Moore to join up with their respective national squads . . . Despite the fact that both players have been out of action for United in recent weeks because of injury.

Midfielder Emre has only played in two league matches this season and has not kicked a ball for his club since aggravating a hamstring problem against Manchester United on August 28.

Australian international defender Moore is yet to make a Premiership appearance since joining the club in the summer, having also picked up a hamstring complaint.

However, United have to comply with FIFA regulations which allow the medical staff of national associations to assess a player who has been selectedI almost forgot about Moore. Emre will probably play against Albania. :(

Emre will probably play against Albania. :(

If I'm Souness, I'm praying for a draw between Denmark and Greece. Well, I am anyway, but you get the drift.
