I'm about to leave for New Orleans, I'm guessing we can drive in early on Thursday morning and I just wanted to thank you motley lot for helping me keep my sanity. I have had very little to cheer about in the last month but the Hammers have pulled through and its been enjoyable sharing it with all of you.
Take care and I'll be back as soon as I can be.

Michael.

UP THE HAMMERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope things are going well for NOH. He has not been on since he started this thread. Perhaps he has no power still; more likely no internet.

I hope he's ok. I'm sure he just has more important things to do right now. Here's to hoping you get your life moderately back to normal ASAP. My prayers are with all of you.

NOH is a good lad. Hope some resemblance of normality can return to the affected areas. Last yr when Charlie hit us in Orlando it took 7 days to get the power back on for us, so I can't imagine how long it will take to get that mess sorted.

Thanks for the good wishes.
Its a bit of a balls-up down here.
I think I'm going to start by knocking my internet problems, it has just taken me an hour to get to this screen, the high-speed is obviously down and the phones are very tempramental, I think I'm connected at 4525 bits per second(not being a nerd, I think thats slow)
We got back in on Thursday morning, passed up a shite load of army and made it to our house, we are about 4 blocks from the Miss. river at the bottom of the cresent. Our house had power and a bit of roof damage but the house across the road lost its whole roof and our two next door neighbors had a big old tree lying on them (someone really must be looking out for me) The house was a bit stinky, which lead directly to our first priority (Stomper, you were right) getting the fridge out of the house. When I say this was the single worst thing I have ever had to deal with I am not exagerating. The wife is a bit of a cook and always has the fridge/freezer stuffed. (Note: If you have a sensitive stomach, stop reading) On Saturday night we were still planning to ride this thing out, we had friends over and grilled up some burgers, the problem was everyone bought minced meat with them, so after the piss-up, we ended up with about four pounds of it left in the fridge along with a ton of vegtables, apples, milk, sour cream and I don't know what else. The freezer was equally stuffed with duck breasts, curry left overs and the remains of a small farm. OK now add 30 days of 90+ degree heat. The obvious answer to this is to tape it up and dump it out side, sounds good? This is the crappy bit, in our kitchen we have an island stove and the only way to remove the monster is to take the doors off. People, I have witnessed pure evil and it stinks!!!!!!!!!! I'm scarred for life.
The fridge now resides on the street and as soon as I get a decent connection I'm going to post some pictures for you all (not just of the fridge).
Businesses are gradually opening up in the uptown area but alot fewer people than I expected have returned and the whole dynamic has drastically changed. Where as NO was a very diverse city it now seems like a town in Maine (apart from the heat), if your not catching my drift I mean everyone is white, strange, strange times.
The amount of devistation is incredible and as I said earlier I'll post some pictures when possible.

I hope to get back online soon and thanks again for the good wishes.

Glad your ok mate. Been wondering how you are. I only spent a short time in NO on my 5th wedding anniversary. Loved it but got very pissed in bourbon street.

Take care, keep us posted. See if you can sell your fridge on ebay.

I hope everything gets back to something approaching normality soon NO.
My girlfriend and I were in your beautiful city just last year for the jazz festival in May.
I can hardly picture what a different scene it must be now.
My favorite city in the U.S., after New York where half my family live - the atmosphere always gets me - nowhere else like it.
If you got any pictures, post them up - it'd be really interesting to see.

All the best
